Experience with Guangzhou Fire Turbocharger EB32G?
wkohler replied to Lengrep's topic in BMW 2002 Turbo Discussion
These discussions of how turbos and exhaust manifolds are merely maintenance items can make it difficult to keep interest in the car. -
Experience with Guangzhou Fire Turbocharger EB32G?

I certainly am interested in the progress of this. Thank you. -
Oh I didn’t realize it was going to be here in town. Wow.

I don’t have contact info for him. I imagine someone does though. I find with many cars that go through the auctions, they just continue to go through the auctions. Sometimes you see the same cars year after year in different parts of the country or even in Arizona, I will see a car at Gooding one year and RM the next. Kinda interesting. I don’t play in that arena, so observations like that are all I have. The 2018 RNM $152k BaT Turbo sold at Mecum in Monterey, 2019. It brought I think $156k so with all the shipping, fees and premiums, they’d have been better off selling for the high bid on BaT I think.

That is Gary Balleisen’s old car. Sold at Gooding in 2017 at Pebble Beach for $143k IIRC.

Totally understood. Lead time on everything save for disappointment has increased greatly with Covid.

I’m in for payment instructions. Let me know and I’ll get you some $$.
-
Sweet. I previously expressed interest but must have missed a run despite watching the thread, so count me in too.

Do you use a wideband o2 sensor or do you just monitor this during the tuning/dyno process? Obviously I am so far away from worrying about this myself but its more curiosity currently.

Unfortunately your photos are in some weird format that I can’t see - even on my iPhone. I have run into this a few times recently. I found this site works to convert them to jpgs. https://heictojpg.com

What do you think the chances are that compressor housing will fit next to the frame rail mounted on the manifold? Seems considerably larger. -

I assumed that was a file photo and I think when this previously came up in my investigation I was thinking vaporware due to that but nice to know it’s real and from you photos looks pretty nice. I certainly look forward to your report. -

Gammet. By Funeywell. Thanks. I guess I’ll send a request for pricing. -

Any details on how to acquire one of these? At this point, the turbo itself is the biggest obstacle in my efforts so if I could use one of these even as a stop gap for the time being, it would take lots of pressure off. -
I saw that and started wondering if he knows what he’s getting into. Sure, it’s not like a project that’s been sitting for decades but it will need some maintenance. And some headlights.

2002 Turbo Clock - part number 1357965
wkohler replied to al2002tnz's topic in BMW 2002 Turbo Discussion
Ahh. I feel dumb. I thought I had seen a VDO but there’s no such animal. At least I’m learning! -
Thanks for sharing that! The page you linked to with the Kugelfischer is incredibly useful to see exploded views of what make up the parts.

Is the tii clock the same aside from the markings on the face? -
Kugelfischer zero output has me stumped

I think that might be a bit easier if the nut wasn't installed. -
02Turbo Kugelfischer Pump Lubrication
wkohler replied to dlacey's topic in BMW 2002 Turbo Discussion
Let's say you have one that's been sitting for an extended period, is it safe to assume that you need to add oil to it before trying to run the pump as you would if it were a fresh install? I assume any excess oil would just drain back into the sump, but they seem to be pretty specific with the oil quantities from what I've seen, so how would you know how much was already in there, etc? Sorry if those questions seem dumb. -
Wow what an interesting history on that car. Would of course like to see more detailed photos of it than you usually get in one of these articles. Thanks for sharing.

SuperSprint also makes a system for the Turbo. It only has a rear muffler, though and no resonator. https://www.supersprint.com/ww-en/supersprint-performance-sport-exhaust-bmw-series-02-2002-turbo.aspx Would be interested in approximate cost of a system from Quicksilver, as they do look nice.

Oem blow-off valve replacement
wkohler replied to Oldtimerfahrer's topic in BMW 2002 Turbo Discussion
Looking at their photos in there showing the part installed, it appears that there's an adapter that likely attaches to a more conventional/modern valve, which itself is obscured by the altitude compensator. -
Excited to see it again! The way the rest of the year is looking for work (very little), I’m hoping to make it and also hopeful it will go forward as planned. Thinking I’ll bring the E28 M5 and that will force me to do the suspension stuff I’ve been putting off.

Nice to see it sell. Kinda sucks I won’t see it around here anymore but it’s nice it didn’t go RNM. From the comments it seems like there are more cars we will see soon.
