Getrag 232 5 speed transmission

To shorten a long story, many years ago I bought a '74 @002 from a man in Tulsa OK that was licensed as a '70 (I assume for emissions purposes).  He said the dual DCOEs, engine work, transmission, and suspension work had been done by a shop in Colorado before he bought it.  I recall talking to the shop owner in

It had a dogleg close ratio 5 speed transmission in it.  My wife and I drove it for many years.  Last year, on June 14th, 2019, It was destroyed (along with a lot more).  The only thing I considered  worth salvaging was the transmission - the rest of the car was only worth it's weight is scrap.

 

After seeing a Facebook ad for a similar transmission, I pulled mine from under the cover in my new shop and started checking it out.  The Front case is damaged beyond use.  The Rear case is also heat damaged.  the ID on the rear case indicates that it is a Getrag 232 (232.0.139.00) and 4.1 (the BMW Symbol) 225.  Has anyone ever heard of a Getrag 232 close ratio 5 speed?

the 235 CR 5sp is based on the 232.. so you'll see 232 castings with a ~4inch piece sandwiched at the back of the case

is it possible a conversion of a standard 232 gearbox with the insertion of that 4 inch piece? I assume is the best mode (and maybe the simple mode (!!!!))  to convert a four gear gearbox into a five gear (with overdrive fifth gear). Someone know the Bmw code for this piece? or maybe a gearbox that has the same piece for fifth gear?

No, unfortunately its not that simple. The case pieces use the same castings but have different machining for 4 or 5 speeds and different countershafts and many other parts.

You have to have the center and back section to a 235/5 (and everything in between).  Using the 232 bell was a quick way to get a 235/5 going again.  The bell housing for a 235/5 CR is different from a 232, primarily in the main bearing size for the (drive shaft) is different.  The gear on it somewhat different as well.  With all that said it can be done (what I described is what came out of my Alpina race car).  Not sure how all of that translates to an overdrive 5speed.  On the right, 232 4speed driveshaft, left is a 235/5 CR driveshaft.

ok, I try an other question: I read many topics about gearbox with fifth overdrive gear, but I don't find the answer. There is a gearbox replaceable with similar gear ratios mountable without modifications to the tunnel?
