I'll ask, why not an 02 with manual gearbox?  They are so much more fun to drive than an automatic. If you don't know how to drive a manual, it's easy to learn. If my teenage daughter can learn a manual gearbox (and she had problems walking and chewing gum at the same time) and like driving her E30, then there is hope that you can learn as well.  The BMW slogan is Freude am Fahren which translates to driving pleasure and a 2002 with a manual gearbox amplifies that slogan. Just my .02 cents worth.

Love the Agave. My auto car wasn't bad to drive at all. Good pep and shifting after

 I got it sorted. Plus a free hand. I just turned it into a five speed though.
