How to ID an Alpina fast steering box.

I saw this on ebay and gave it some pondering.  Is there enough information on that ID tag to prove that this is the real thing?  The paint clearly isn't a match with others I have seen.

Someone smarter than I please respond.  I would like to get this and discover that I have made an expensive error!  ?

Paint looks right and the 177 serial number identifies it as a quick ratio steering box. I had one for 18 years.

Looks dead on to me as well.

I can’t tell you why, but many, like this, appear to have been manufactured in 1983.

Best regards,

But to split hairs, the serial number is the first set of numbers on the second line......and the preceding numbers to the "177" is the model number of the box, e.g. 7316 955. The 1083 is the manufacture date, October 1983. It wasn't an exclusive Alpina part.

I like "original used condition" in the description.

Does anyone happen to have one of these they would like to part with, maybe for less than $2K?  Thanks!

Paint your original red and tell everyone you have the QR one.

Install a smaller diameter steering wheel and wider tires/wheels.

Why are these coveted? Creighton always said they were stupid.

Love it, thank you Einspritz. Not too far in the weeds for me.

Makes perfect sense that it's the model number, not SN!

Don -

Pardon my ignorance - who is Creighton?

@c.diesel was his username.

Extremely knowledgeable. But he had sold his ‘02 — although he still worked at a BMW dealership — so when a forum upgrade rendered the forum quite “challenging” for a period of time, he wandered off. Sadly...
