Well, heck Ray. Here's 1562736! Now we don't have to guess too much about your first car and it's rare accessories.

Ray, I'll bet your car did not have these nifty side window roll-up shades. Heck, if I had known those were available, I would have never fixed my air conditioner. Which is probably what a previous owner did with this car, back in the day. Good way to combat the "greenhouse effect."

Seriously, has anyone ever seen roll-up shades for the door windows on an 02? I'd say they are rarer than a working York A/C compressor!

Seriously, you all ought to look over this "Saguaro Special" on Bring-A-Trailer. No reserve. Seems like a desert survivor!

Unfortunately, the seller does not give build record details. James Taylor says "Some cars built at the very end of 1968 also had the side reflectors"--and he meant so in the context of the front, amber reflectors. This car has rear, red reflectors. And, as I read Mike Self's tutorial on reflectors, these should not be on a 1968 car.

Anyway, this one is pretty interesting, and just two numbers off of Ray's old car. Aloha, Robert

Hi, Robert,

VIN 1562736 would have been a January 1968 car.

Best regards,

Steve

Steve, any thoughts on the rear red reflectors? Do you think someone added them, like the window shades? Aloha!

Yes, Robert. And I believe this car has witnessed a lot over the last 52 years, not always with a stock and original appearance in mind! ?

And that settles it: my tii is getting Levolors... ?

Best regards,

Steve

@Conserv Did you notice the hand stamped VIN? Just like mine! This is the 3rd one I've found!

I did, Matt, including that very home-made “double-strike” of the “2”!

Best regards,

Steve

Double strike like rare and valuable coinage. ?

And, I spy that wonderful mocha shade of Tampico under the red! ?
