I finished up the carbon door skins and the dashboard!

Regardless of the weight that Dash actually looks like a great alternative for a cracked replacement, way better than a "Cap" or $2500 for a real repair at San Fernando Dash Repair (+9 Months)

Lol. He's the new SOC employee. We sniped him from Singer. He is a composites specialist and he weights maybe a a buck fiddy; hardly heavy enough to make a difference if a strong gust of wind were to push through.

What's SOC? Where do you work?

My son, 3rd year at Berkeley studying Mech engineering, interned at Singer last summer.

2003 e39 M5 (daily)

1986 e30 325es (sons car)

1972 2002tii (fun daily alternative)

I had the car transported from Socal to my painter in Norcal over the last two days. Next up, paint and bodywork.

This thread is bonkers. Haven't seen it before today. Now I'll be hitting refresh every hour or so... I've been drooling over that SOC car since discovering it last year... Now to see this build detail is incredible. Thanks for bringing us all along for the ride @danco_

Norcal has has some pretty rough weather over the last 3 weeks but things have to get done. I set up a meeting for this morning at 9am with the painter and shop in Walnut Grove called Morris Motors. I brought coffee and donuts after the scariest drive of my life (nonstop dumping sideways rain and plenty of car accidents on the way to attest to the wild weather). I wish I had a large SUV or a truck of some kind instead of my current daily driver.

But the meeting went well. Expectations were set, timing is reasonable, and the paint and body guys are truly excited for this car which gives me peace that things will work out well with this car. The materials to be used will be single stage PPG or similar alternative, and a high quality epoxy primer (painter's discretion). There will be no shortcuts here. I will be monitoring progress and the chosen body man will start early February. He only does one car at a time so my car will get all the attention it wants.

We decided that the engine bay should also be sprayed, so we will remove the engine before bodywork and respray to do it right. This will give me a chance to redo the front subframe and the pedal box assembly. I am also ready to build a hot m10 stroker which will be fun. I'm building a turbo motor as well, but I want a stroker m10 in the car for now.  I will be selling the tii engine as a nice running/driving package deal (engine, wiring, all ancillaries, airbox, etc.)

A few photos from this morning:
