Brake Reservoir Tank Install

Recommended Posts

I don't know if I'm over thinking this.

I will be installing a brake reservoir which sits directly on the master cylinder. I just see 2 rubber seals. Do I just force it in?

Is there a trick/procedure? I used google and searched on here but didn't find anything conclusive

thanks for your help.

e21 reservoir + single line master cylinder.

Make sure that the ID of the rubber is compatible with your resivour, which may be different than the angled pipes of a remote resivour.

Lube with a little brake fluid and a "few choice words".

Finally getting around to this :S ...was looking at the pieces while BBQ'ing last night

I removed the rubber seals from the master cylinder, so, I will try to pop them on to the (e21) brake fluid reservoir nipples (hahahahah he said nipples) before squeezing/pushing them (with reservoir installed) back on to the master cylinder.

Having no experience with these parts, I'll ask a long shot question, is there any type of sealant which goes around the grommets?

thanks peeps!

Seals go in MC first, then reservoir goes into seals.

Use no sealant.  Just brake fluid.

ok, I figured this would be more difficult (especially because of e21 res) but will give it a whirl.

thanks guys.

A little dish soap makes rubber much easier to slip in.

I wouldn’t use anything other than brake fluid or maybe the red grease specifically designed for brake hydraulics. Dish soap contains salt and can promote corrosion it can also contaminate the brake fluid.

Personally, I would ditch the e21 reservoir and go with 2002 remote.  Easier to install, easier to fill.
I thought the e21 would be cleaner. Thanks for advice.

I kinda figured dish soap wouldn't mix well.

I don't think these rubber grommets work with the e21 res, because I just can't do it with then on the master cylinder.
