What model year is your car?  Is it a U.S.-spec car?  Does it have a Solex or a Weber carb?  Or something else altogether?

Regards,

Steve

Without knowing any more details, relying on your statement that it’s ‘76 and seeing the emissions schematic sticker on your car’s left inner fender, you’ve got a ‘76 California-only version (a U.S.-spec car).  The original two-barrel Solex has been swapped out for a two-barrel Weber and the car has been partially de-smogged, i.e., the emissions controls have largely been de-activated but left on the car.  The combination of the carb swap and de-activating the emissions has left lots of loose ends in the engine compartment .

There are a number of excellent threads on de-smogging — I’m hoping and guessing you are not a California resident who must maintain operating emissions — and the search function, searching on “All Content” is probably an effective means to locate some of those threads.

Regards,

Steve

Pretty sure if you track it backwards you will find that it is part of the air pump from the emissions control system. Air pump would be located directly under the battery. Maybe somebody took out the smog control at some time? Or at least kind of removed it. Remove the battery & alternator and you can remove the air pump for good. It's dead weight, unless you need the emissions in the area that you live in? Anyway, 90% sure that is your mystery hose.
