Let Me Rent Your 02! - PNW Area

Hey guys,

My girlfriend's turning 30 in February and I wanted to plan a little old-timey road trip along the Pacific coast. By that time we'll be living in Portland and I'm going to have to sell my cars before the move. She's in love with 02's so I'd love to be able to rent one for a week or so. I thought I'd reach out to the enthusiast community to see if there's any interest.

The Trip

The idea is a road trip up the pacific coast with daily stops of an old-timey fasion: catching an event at a vintage theater, strolls through historic towns, vintage diners etc. I imagine it wouldn't be more than 7 days, and likely around 500-700 miles. I own a bunch of vintage vehicles and will treat your 02 with the same respect I'd give had it been my Grandfathers 02. No hooning. No back seat funny business. Just a week long "Sunday drive".

A bit about me since I'm sure you'd want to know who you're trusting your baby to:

I'm an Industrial Designer by trade. 30 years old. I've owned E30's / E28's for the past 8 years now. I've built an E30 from the chassis up before and run a business building custom vintage motorcycles. All this is to let you know I'm very in-tune with vintage machines.

What's in it for you?

- Rental cash

- Other forms of payment: Illustration of your car, maintenance work, custom work, motorcycle work, ...a motorcycle?

- I'll undoubtedly be taking tons of photos of your car in awesome places. You're welcome to any of those in hi-res.

- I'm happy to draft up a rental agreement, prove insurance, copy of my license, list of my fears etc.

I'll attach some examples of my fabrication and illustration work if you're interested in non-cash compensation.

If you're interested please shoot me an email with photos and details about your car and we can go from there: dave@draftstudio.co

If you want to rent a flat bed and a guy to drive it, you and my girlfriend can sit in my car on top and get driven around. But you should probably keep looking until you find one that runs.

To clarify, your girlfriend is included in the rental?

Cool Bike, here you go!

Oh very cool. Like the Uber of car rentals. Thanks for the link. Unfortunately it's 650 miles from Portland and the PNW area as a trip destination is important. It'd be $1,800 just to get the car up and back, plus flights, not counting our actual trip. I'll keep an eye out on that site though, thanks for the link.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
