Been verified already. I think we beat this car to death lol!

Well, actually, Lisa verified, and then we beat to death VIN 2761315 (above, in this same thread). VIN 2762632, advertised as VIN 2764444 and newly listed on eBay, on the other hand, still has a pulse....

It is now clear to me that there is a factory somewhere into which you drop a Fjord tii and out pops an Arktisblau tii.

Steve

The car is not a true Arktisblau....

I requested VIN # info from BMW archivevs.. and this is what they gave me..

The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2762632 was manufactured on October 07th, 1972 and delivered on October 19th, 1972 to the BMW importer in Canada. The original colour was Fjord metallic, paint code 037.

Of course, the Canadian delivery explains Les finding the car listed out of Surrey, BC. And since Arktisblau had a mid-'74 introduction (first appeared in February 1974 color brochure), any round taillight car in Arktisblau has been color-changed.

Thanks, Lisa!

If you search that license plate in the CA DMV, it comes up to a '59 Mercedes.

The listing does say the car has non-op registration, which might somehow be related. And I don't know precisely how, but these cookie-cutter Arktisblau cars seem to be related, possibly "restored" by the same shop/person/seller. As Rob pointed out above, VIN's 2761315 and 2762632 have been photographed from the same angles in front of the same fountain, in Some City, U.S.A., not to mention both being round taillight Fjord tii's color-changed to Arktisblau! And maybe that other VIN, 2764444, is also part of the plan.

If you're interested, ask LOTS of questions. And make certain the title actually carries the correct VIN for the car!

Regards,

Steve

Has anyone set eyes on this car yet? There must be someone on this board from Jacksonville.

The current eBay offering, VIN 2762632 (according to the listing photos) or VIN 2764444 (according to the listing text), is in Santa Ana, CA. A "sister" car, VIN 2761315, photographed at the very same location, may or may not have ever been in Jacksonville, FL.

Got it.  I guess I lost track of the story ;-)   How about a board member in Santa Ana?  It would prove or disprove the existence of the car.

Sold at $22,300. I actually thought it would bring more, from buyers who don't read the FAQ. And I thought the reserve would be higher at the Arktisblau factory!

It is a curious final value. Judging from other recent auctions, if people were unaware of the questions raised here on the FAQ as well as on BaT, I also thought  it would've brought more.

Yet it supposedly sold on Ebay 21 February 2016 for $22,300...

In one of the Ebay pix you can just make out what might be a California Dealer Plate on the back of the car: 47701(?)

Like a bad penny....

This was the one listed as VIN 2764444, but which had photos clearly showing VIN 2762632.

I must admit, I'm a tad disappointed: I hoped the next offering from the Arktisblau factory would be the real VIN 2764444...

This one is all bad! I had someone go do a PPI for me... I have close up pics to prove that there is so much extensive body work that needs to be done.... Lots of BONDO used on this car... For example... here's the spare tire well area.... (Also, if you look at the rear shock area... its all been "smoothed out"...) Its an abomination! Not worth what he's asking... !

My recommendation is to always do a PPI... because pics will never do a car justice... good or bad... Makes me mad that people jack up the prices of these tii's just because they can...

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
