Hi all

It's been a while since I have investigated distributerless ignition systems and there are quite a few systems now from mild to wild. Can anyone let me know what's good for a basic system?

Search "Megajolt"

This system is built to use the EDIS-4 module from an early 90s Ford Taurus. We have members here who run this system and they seem to love it. And plus, no more distributor to potentially go bad or create timing problems.

In the process of installing EDIS on my tii/turbo cause the vacuum dist falls flat under boost.

It's nearly a bolt-on set up as far as the hardware and routing are concerned.

You'll need to account for where the coil and controller(s) go.

I made a simple firewall slung bracket as seen below and put the Mega box in the glove box.

Tuning should be the hardest part to figure out for me anyways. Turbo and mechanical fuel supply is way old school.

But what do I know?

Some day I'll finish if only the other car projects stop getting in the way.

Good luck with yours should you do it.

Thanks everyone!

The mega jolt looks like a great system and super cheap (relative to electromotive and things).

Great bracket! I might get the coil pack adapted to the distributor to clean up the packaging.

As far as the EDIS ford modules and sensors - junk yard or are there sources for new pieces?

I had a pulley retrofitted with a toothed wheel, but the megajolt requires a 36T option - so that 02 again option adds some money in the mix but answers that question.

This should be a fun venture, as long as life and the other car projects don't get in the way!

Aashish, I just realized who you were.

Sometime in 2010, I made a deal with you to buy a stock 91 318i with no engine or trans...I think the car had under 100k miles and was either blue or diamondschwarz.

Anyways, not a day before I was to drive out to you and pick up the car/complete the transaction, my court case had settled and the judge granted my request to serve my jail sentence a month early. I literally started serving time a day before I could come to you. The crazy part is I didn't find out until the morning I "turned myself in", so I had no time to tell anyone goodbye. I literally disappeared for a month. No one knew where I had gone.

But if I recall correctly, I had a buddy go out to you and complete the deal, as I was detained and unable to do so.

What a small world.

Hey Ryan

I did have a sedan that I bought my brother, who ended up blowing the profile gasket. I ended up trying to fix it, but had no luck with finding a 91 head and all that.  I ended up trailering it to Sacramento to a guy who was planning on swapping I think.  That car? If so, indeed a small world.  Hope its still in someones posession!

Aashish. I'm running an older MS system and have been quite satisfied with it. Originally it was tied to the stock Escort coils, but I subsequently moved to the Accel coils as they give a much wider variety of plug wire choices. I pulled the coil bracket from an Escort and modified it (cut off a bunch of unnecessary heavy steel) before mounting it to my firewall. Good luck!! Tom

Yup, that's the one.

It's in Sacramento somewhere. I ended up throwing an extra m42 in it and drove it around for a while. Before I moved down to Southern California, I sold the car.

Steve Peterson would talk about you once or twice. This was years ago.

I've had this http://sdsefi.com in my '73CS and very happy with it.  Nice not to need a computer to do the set up.  Lot's of local '02 cars and racers using it.  Very good tech support as excellent install manual.  Excellent web site with lots of info that will help you regardless of what system you eventually but.

If we learn from our mistakes does that mean I have to make them all?

If you choose to go with MegaJolt, a piece of advise. Take your time, and use 02 Again parts. I recommend installing the coilpack to the firewall, that looks most original.

Also, install the EDIS controller and MJ unit on a piece of wood or metal together, that way there is less strain on the wires between them, and it looks clean. If you get second-hand parts, remember to clean them well, and do good work on the wiring and soldering. It saves a lot of hassle. Another tip, just drill one sufficiently large hole in the firewall for all the wires, and run them in a sleeve, it makes for a cleaner install, and less trouble if you have to remove it later. Draw it all on a piece of paper(do it, don´t think it!). Once again. All wires in sleeves!

I really, really regret how I did it on my car. Did a crap job the first time, and had heaps of problems(most because of crappy bracket and trigger wheel). Did a better job second time, but did not think of connecting the MJ and EDIS on a piece of wood. Currently making new bracket for sensor, for the fourth time. By the way, if I had to pick again, I would have went with something more simple, like 1-2-3 ignition.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I really appreciate it. What load option works well with dcoe carbs, TPS or MAP? Anybody have pictures of their setup?
