Ireland Eng- Stainless Exhaust System

Esty, you've hit upon a couple valid points.  But as you know the system you've "inherited" is the old 2-center muffler setup that hasn't been made for at least 5 years.  The system certainly has improved since then and that has generally been reflected in the comments, shoot yes I'm bias, but I'm also dang proud of the improvements.

I do find there's always something someone doesn't like or struggles with, but I'm sure you would know how that goes sometimes.

andrew...i do understand and i'm sure they have improved...we actually completely removed the 2 center mufflers and bought an original center pipe which helped but the rattles from the pipes and rear muffler still drives me bonkers....

any plans to reduce the size of the rear muffler...that's one thing that been an issue getting it the way we feel it should be, it's so large in diameter that if you try and hang it high enough so it isn't the center of attraction at the rear of the car, you get tight against the spare well and gas tank, which causes vibration when cruising...hang it normally and it just hangs to low & bounces around to much...hanging that low makes it looks too ricer for my taste anyway

i didn't mean to be entirely critical...just expressing my experiences which i doubt will cause sales to plummet

My biggest complaint with it is that it's 4 pieces so it shifts around. I like the sound though

So after starting this thread I need some more white wine to install the stainless steel exhaust system! I will give some up to date feedback once we install it. I plan to install it with the help of Chris Joyner, BMW Specialist Repair Shop, Asheville, N.C. He is fantastic with 2002's and all vintage BMW's! I feel that it will go just fine thanks to AceAndrew!

that's cheating getting a pro to help...owner installed feedback will be skewed....

JK....i hope your installation goes well and may you never have a clang or a bang

I put the system on my 02 replacing a tii manifold and stock exhaust . I now have the IE shorty manifold , Downpipe and SS exhaust. Its a little tame for my liking I wish it was louder and throatier . My buddy told me it would get louder and throatier with time. I think its a quality piece and I had no fitment issues at all.I would recommend it to all .

I also had my doubts about IE's exhaust from so many conflicting opinions, and was skeptical about fitment, but forced to get it because it was the only reasonably priced option.  I think it was last year I got mine, so it was one of the later style ones.

I was pleasantly surprised that it's quite well made, with very rigid connections, but also flexible for plenty of adjustments for old/abused cars.  The style of exhaust clamps that came with it were extremely nice, better than I'd ever seen.  Sure, it took a few adjustments over the first couple weeks, but my car is old and beat to hell and back, as are many others.  No real problems after a year or so of driving.

I think it sounds pretty good, but I'm not really picky about exhaust sounds and can't tell the subtle differences.  As long as its not painfully loud, I'm happy.

I put my IE stanless exhaust on about a year ago. No rattles or banging. It is such an improvement over the non stainless systems. My old exhaust was paper thin and falling apart. The sound is great, but the important thing is it works and was easy to install.

Guess what showed up this afternoon.....

I couldnt resist so as soon and the kids passed out I was throwing on my Wrench N It clothes.  I jacked the car up and tore the old exhaust out, this was the hardest part.  The new exhaust slipped together effortlessly.  Front to back there are enough joints and overlap so that everything can shift or twist without falling apart. I had the system all lined up in 30 or so minutes.  I only have one problem that kept me from finishing it all at once and that is that some of the clamps don't quite cinch enough to keep things from slipping and twisting. Either the tolerances are a little too liberal on the joints or Im just missing something in how to use them properly.

The only clamp out of 3 that worked was the S bend pipe from the muffler out the side exit.  So the job isn't done just yet.

Regardless, even though some things are still loose I fired it up and all I can say is that it sounds NICE! I'm looking forward to taking it out for a spin

Its a night and day difference from the old system that had a worn out rattly muffler and was also missing the resonator.  Its all throaty now and makes the car idle much much quieter and smoother.  Im glad I pulled the trigger.

I have had my Ie exhaust along with there downpipe for almost a year and love it. I had a problem with the center resonator rattling inside after about 100 miles but Ie sent out a new one and I have had no problems what so ever since then. I had no problems installing the system and it sounds great. Cant go wrong with this exhaust

I have mentioned to IE aswell that the clamps are too big to clamp sufficiently, probably a reason so many of these rattle. What I did to make mine work better was pull the nut off the clamp, add one or two washers, put back together. Gave me just enough more cinching that it holds much better now.
