New Style Oil Pump ?

Recommended Posts

The washer is a pretty specific diameter, hardness and thickness to provide a good, properly- aligned

seat for the back of the sprocket.  And the nut is oil- resistant...

Given how inexpensive they are and how many OTHER BMW motors have problems with

oil pump sprocket shedding, I'd just order the OEM parts.

Ireland supplied me with the sprocket-nut and shim for my rebuild using a S14 pump and an 02 pickup.Got the pump from Turner for 348.00 or so. Best price and avail I found after looking for months.

I did the things yesterday no one wanted to -

So I could do the things today no one else can afford.

...you might find some Nylocks that eventually lose their "nylon" being continually immersed in oil...

(yes, I know, that means it's not nylon...)

And that shim NLA???  Damn, that's stupid.  It really is critical to retaining the sprocket...

Ken at Vintage BMW Racing <ken@vintagebmwracing.com> was able to supply me with a shim. He's done he homework and found an after market shim that fits.

Hope this helps,

I guess this could be called a Noilock. (OEM nut .56c)

My Nuts are oil resistant but my balls are in a vice for an entirely different matter.

meh.  will probably work.  Not the best solution.  I'd take that nut to a real bolt and nut store and find one wtihout the "nyloc" and one with a mechanical deformation lock nut.

edit.  Looked it up, it's called a "stover lock nut"
