Need Westcoast to Eastcoast 2002 transporter

Just bought a nice 02,,, but its in Oregon and I live in MD.

Went on line for transportation quotes and a ton of email came through.

Does any one have any tips.

That whole industry is a bloody mess of contractors, subcontractors, etc. It's overwhelming. Most all of the businesses advertising to you aren't real shippers, they just find spaces on trucks for you.

But, if you call Gilbert at Avenderle Transport, he'll explain everything and be incredibly helpful. It's pretty much only Gilbert, who finds the proper space on a truck with a competent driver that knows how to deal with old cars, and the guy just never stops working to make sure you're pleased with everything. He's just one of those kinda guys obsesses with working and pleasing customers, and at the lowest price. Weird, I know. He got my '65 Datsun from LA to Ohio quite well, and did a way better job than when I had to ship my 02 from HI to CA via Matson. http://avenderletransport.com/

I don't have any recommendations, but having sold a few cars that got shipped and watched them get loaded, the care the drivers showed in placing the vehicle way in front on the upper ramp of that roller-coaster-on-wheels-looking transport ranged from "this guy's an artist and you can tell he cares by how carefully he's placing it" to "OH GOD I CAN'T WATCH."

I went thru a broker (paid too much) who jobbed it out to Avanti Motor Transport based in PA (Philly I think). The driver told me they technically couldn't advertise since they have a contract with the broker. This was my 2nd dealing with haulers and still have a bad taste. Driver's are fine - brokers I could do without.

I used Montway Auto Transport to ship my new 2002 purchase from New Jersey to Ohio. The only problem I had was the seller was leaving the country for 6 months so the car needed to be picked up by a specific day and they couldnt gurantee that day. The only way they would gurantee the day was if I paid an additional $100 dollars. I paid because I scheduled on a very short notice. Once the car was picked up everything seemed flawless.

The holy grail of shipping is the shipping document. The pick-up driver should inspect the car and note every ding, scratch flaw. (unless the car is more of a wreck than a car) The person that ships the car signs that document effectively agreeing to the flaws found and keeps a copy.

Upon arrival, that inspection document should be presented to the buyer/receiver. The buyer/receiver should take whatever time they need to inspect the car and only sign the document that no other damages have occurred to the car. If other damages are found that were not on the document, note them on the shipping docment, keep your copy, and file a claim with the shipper. They should carry around a million dollars of insurance on what they carry.

When I was toting around cars, I would take between 30 minutes to two hours inspecting a car I transported. But - often I would have over a million dollars worth of cars in a two car enclosed trailer. A good driver will find flaws a concours judge will not find.

Another thought, if the shipper uses a two tier trailer, covered or an open rack, the cars on the bottom usually sustain most of the damage. Good carriers have pans or nets to keep things from falling from the upper tier to the lower tier. It is surprising, the fluids, nuts, bolts, screwdrivers, etc. , that fall from cars, especially used cars.

idk about any of those services but I am a female CEO that travels back & forth from the westcoast(CA) to eastcoast(Richmond, VA) a few times a year...I prefer flying there and driving back east to attend meetings in major cities on the way back...I am more than willing to drive the vehicle for free (plus gas $) to save myself rental car fees....I am planning to go in late Dec 12 and back within approx one weeks worth of travel...please contact me at ChoiceCo@aol.com if I can be of some help to you...thanks
