This thread is incredibly discouraging. I'm in SoCal and badly in need of a 2002 - just because, having sold my '82 SC and now being newly retired and without something out in the garage to keep me off the streets (bought a car for my son with the proceeds of the P-car, so that money is gone). Prices reflected in this thread are many multiples what cars seem to be going for.

I answered the other newer thread, but not the more detailed one here, so here goes:

Purchase price (in USD please)= 2,250
*Purchase date= Sept. 2013
*Mileage= 66,000+ on the odo, no idea if it is right
*State of purchase= NE
*Model year= 74
*2002 or 2002tii= 2002
*Color= Inka
*Auto or manual= 4 spd
*Factory options= None that I am aware of, may have had dealer installed A/C but gone now except a console with extra vents going nowhere
*Any aftermarket accessories that came with the car = 320i wheels, late 80s early 90s AM/FM Cassette (works great!) Weber 32/36 (are there more cars with these than stock carbs these days)
*Did the vehicle come with tool kit= only jack and wheel lug
*Your assessment of the vehicle history in terms of paperwork/receipts (1-10, 10 being highest)= 1 (I got nothing, nada, previous owner had it for 7-8 years, didn't work on cars, owner before that had a motorcycle shop and did a cosmetic restoration, but no paper work)
*Your assessment of the interior quality (1-10, 10 being highest)= 7 great seats, good carpet, decent door panels, couple small tears in headliner, couple cracks in the dash, but presents pretty well
*Your assessment of the exterior quality (1-10, 10 being highest)= 7 appearance (15 footer) 3.5 for underneath (no rust or lack thereof category??), rust in floorboards, and other places, rear shock tower rust on one side welded up by moi.
*Your assessment of the mechanical condition of the vehicle (1-10, 10 being highest)= 4 as bought, clutch stuck, some leaks and minor electrical, needed a tune up, now 7.5 runs and drives pretty well, everything works as it should, no obvious issues, but suspension and motor all probably have quite a few miles and years on them

Don't get discouraged, deals are out there you just have to really keep looking. What are you looking for exactly? a project to wrench on, a daily driver, or full blown resto?

If you have any additional info you think should be relayed please post. A picture would be cool as well

I saw this car in a Von's supermarket parking lot early in 2000. The owner arrived just as I started to walk away and asked what I was up to, so I told her. She had gotten the car from her cousin, who had kept it in storage for 14 years. When he passed away, she got it, but had just been given an expanded sales territory to cover and didn't think using a 2002 for that would be a good idea. I agreed, and made her a good offer for the car. She had just had the car's original engine rebuilt, and it had already been fitted with 4 alloy wheels and Recaro seats by her cousin, the car's first owner. The car was in great shape mechanically, and in the past 13 years I have added a new factory exhaust system, new seat belts, and miscellaneous bushings, tie rod ends, etc. It had - and still has - its factory Malaga paint on it, in very good condition, except for repair to a dent in the driver's door where the door brake had broken and allowed it to hit the front fender, and  a small area on both rear quarter panels that have an extra coat of paint, but we don't know why. There is no filler below it, just a second coat of paint. Maybe it was keyed? There are a few small dents on the car, but I do not want to paint it, as I prefer to leave it as original as possible. Besides, it's now 40+ years old, and deserves some patina. The car was clearly rust-proofed many years ago, even though it was a California car, as there is still a black coating of goop on the undersides and in the wheel wells. Thankfully, we can find no evidence of rust anywhere on the car. After 14 years, I wonder - did I pay too much? Not in my book.

Back when this thread started, i looked at the first few posts, laughed, and figured it would be a while before "real" prices were admitted to. Anyone paying more than 5k for their car would be too ashamed to post here.
