Most recently I've been working on the motor, trying to figure out why I've been fouling plugs & getting 15-16 MPG. After (foolishly) playing with the carbs for a couple weeks, I figured I would install the IE Dizzy I bought a few months ago. I posted on someone else's thread about the difficulty I encountered, where the sleeve for the O-Ring may not be deep enough, making it near impossible to slide the shaft into the housing without destoying the rubber O-Ring. Fortunately, I had a spare in the Box of "Lots of Small Special Parts"!

I think I got it in without wrecking the O-Ring. I've tested in the garage and it does not appear to be leaking. Will take a test drive later today.

Aside from that issue, the motor runs like it suuposed to! This was an issue all last year. All my fault as well, I re-installed the magnetic ring on my pertronix incorrectly and it was hitting the pick-up. Woops!

Great rebuild thread! I'm in MA and I'm sure the day will come when I want a frame off body check and repaint. Were you totally happy with Radius Restoration? Hard to find really dedicated restoration guys who care about detailed craftsmanship. Any other recommendations for good restoration shops within a several hundred miles of MA? Thanks

Thanks! This was all a learning process for me and knowing what I know now, I would have gone about things differently. Like starting with the body as a bare shell. Jerry Holmberg/Radius Restoration is good with metal. My 02 was the first one he had laid hands on, so it was a small learning process for him as well. I think my car was the 2nd car he had worked on as a self-employed person, so that brought some challenges. But he did some great work and in the end I am happy.

A few years ago, I had cut 1 1/2 coils off the front springs and also removed the 1/2" spacers. (Stamped "75") Also cut rear springs 1 coil. (IIRC) The additional height of these tires (Not sure why, same specs as last set) and ET17 Offset was causing fender rub when I was hitting bumps on a test drive yesterday. I got back home and re-installed the 1/2" spacers. Test drove and it's perfect. I have bogue strut inserts which are fairly soft.

It just occurred to me, this 02 and I have been on the FAQ for over 10 years now, and the project list never ends! Replacing what I've already replaced now.

The car went into winter storage (with its new E90 convertible friend) last weekend.

Things I'm preparing for in the spring when it comes out hibernation:

Thanks to John Pantel, I have a 5th matching borrani for the spare. Just need to get a tire on it, that's the easy one.

Changing the suspension from softer to stiffer, in the spring. Just need a set of rear springs. H&R. (Any leads appreciated, I may just buy a whole set)

My engine block appears to have lower ring wear (?) as I'm getting excessive smoke & oil exiting the valve cover breather. I still have the original block and head in the shed. This is the biggest on the list. Will be missing spring driving for sure.

I was thinking it's pretty awesome you've been on here for 10 years Scott.  I think I purchased my car in 2007, so it's almost 10 years for me.  Wow.  And - I know what you mean - now you are having to go back and re-do projects that you re-did.

Which is fine, because it means they are still going.....

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
