  1. +1 on keeping the original one-barrel solex. lot's of low-end torque and great for in town driving. i loved the one i had. on a stock engine it's a great run around carb. rebuilding is a great way to learn alittle, too. the key is to verify the snuggness of the throttle shaft against the carb body. looseness will affect idle smoothness. i think there's a scanned exploded diagram in the Construction Zone of this website.
  2. thanks for the offer, considering that you have to pack it and drop it off at the PO, i think your price is fair. i'll have to pry the cover off to readjust the key flap, it appears. this is my warm-up excercise before i tackle ignition-door key matching. email me your payment preference and i can follow-up this evening. anyone else???
  3. looking for some candidates to play with. not looking to spend much on keyless ones and condition/appearance of the slot impacts value of anything other than free, to me. if you got one or two on your shelf, let me know. jerryallsmanATyahooDOTcom
  4. OHHH MY GAWD!!!!! my very first vehicle i ever owned was a 1954 International Harvester L100 with an RD220 inline six and 'three on a tree'. it looked just like the one you have with the later front grill. top speed was 55mph. i acquired it in 1978 and kept it until 1991 when my parents suggested it was time to get it off their property (i was living in another state at the time). i planted a small cactus in the ashtray. i rebuilt the tranny using only an exploded parts diagram. i later acquired a '53 L120 with hopes of restoring it but it too had to go. i always felt IHI was the unloved step-child of the old trucks.
  5. i'm the 2nd owner of this 1966 Ford F250 that was formerly owned by the Stockton School District until last year when i acquired it. it is a bare bones, no frills model with an inline 6 cylinder engine. simple of form and a joy to drive. shown as i acquired it, it cleaned up nicely. i plan never to use bondo on it and except for doing basic rust preventative protection, i'll leave it as it is.
  6. i'll take it. paypal this evening. jerryallsmanATyahooDOTcom i am assuming the two attachment studs are intact...
  7. i was not aware that the term billet was exclusively meant for aluminum... perhaps it's an industry colloquialism?
  8. actually, i'm not upset. i thought it was more on the comical side as to his reaction. but it did cause me a little self-doubt about my understanding of what 'hardware' is. however, i confirmed with two co-workers who agreed with my use of the term hardware, at least as it relates to the aero-engine field. my thought is he could have avoided all ambiguity by merely stating that both screws were stainless steel. i personally don't think it was an innocent oversight. but to disparage the innocent 02's???? that just hurts to the quick...
  9. i've been searching for linkage for a set of mikuni carbs i have and was directed to an eBay vendor selling what appears to be rather sharp-looking link arms for what i consider a premium price. reading his description i came across the text "all hardware is made of stainless steel" or words to that effect. in my line of work, any item not directly related to the function of the engine is considered hardware: brackets, linkage, etc. well, i obviously struck a nerve with this guy for calling him out in my not too subtle way. what i don't understand is why-oh-why did he have to disparage my affection for BMW 2002's. he crossed the line there.... a scorned 02'er is an ugly thing.... READ for yourself- hanksjim1 wrote: You may want to check with this guy for linkage (he may also have airhorns available)... http://www.ebay.com/itm/200708727752?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 in my opinion, this vendor is being willfully deceptive in his description of his link arm, giving the impression that it is made of stainless steel. he is splitting hairs on HIS use of the term 'hardware'. thought i'd share a recent dialog i had with this vendor: Dear jalls1, My discription makes perfect sense to intellegent people. The term 'hardware' means nuts, bolts, washers, etc., not the main item being sold. I do not sell to idiots, or people who whant to tell me I am wrong. 11. those little fender bling items are great for trapping moisture and grit; just look at the staining on the underside. not to mention that you have to bend the tabs against your painted fender to hold in place. i'd want to seal up the cavity somehow. they look best on your coffee table.
  12. I tried to email you through this forum but have not received any indication that you received my message.
  13. okay, you got me curious. shoot me some photos......
  14. was just curious, your race car started out as an Alpina race car and ended as a Schnitzer race car, if memory serves me. do you suppose that the Schnitzer bits on the engine were later modifications from its original configuration? or asked in another way, would using Schnitzer parts be something Alpina would be open to during their stewardship? just wondering.... btw, that manifold is jewelry
  15. thanks for the link. i'd been considering those link arms, actually. i hadn't thought to ask him about airhorns, though.
  16. that's the right thing to do, but i had to ask, just in case. will this be your ti-clone? i look forward to many hi-resolution photos of the process. sure looks like a nice well preserved dash.
  17. hey, San Rafael is my neck of the woods.... that's a marin county car. bet that license plate frame is from Auto Zentrum. if you ever decide to part with the frame, let me know. car looks like a good base to start from.
  18. the carbs shown on the underside of the first photo are 40's, based on the lack of bolts used to secure the venturies, as found on 45's.
  19. yes, they are slated for 2570440... .....someday...
  20. i hadn't thought to go to them direct. todd walrich of wolfcreek racing who is a mikuni distributor told me they were NLA as of a year or so ago. when did you acquire your bits 'n pieces? i'll inquire directly. thanks
  21. Got them from Pierce Manifolds and they look GREAT. NOS and beautifully made. attention to detail. casting marks buffed out. definitely a Japanese twist to the standard Weber/Dellorto airhorns. Quite abit of flair at the ends. I do not want to cover these babies with a filter canister ;-( still looking for a one piece intake manifold for side drafts, too. jerryallsmanATyahooDOTcom
  22. Tom, i am sorry to hear about your loss of such a friend. i know the anguish you have to deal with as you witness the gradual demise of your companion. their passing is an indelible marker in time. it really emphasizes how quickly time passes by. let his passing motivate you to go forward with any projects or goals you've set for yourself. i recently had to bid farewell to an old friend and companion Ramone, he was just shy of 16 years. i chose to honor him by installing him as my avatar. i had struggled several times over the years to include a dang avatar and alway gave up in frustration, but i made the effort to get it right as a tribute to my dear friend Ramone, who i honor with every post, now.
  23. is that the speaker grill used for the more common blaupunkt installations? or is it something you were able to come up with? how'd you mount up the radio to the console. i'll be doing this in the not so distant future with a Becker, as well. also on a short console. i'd fear that the angle of the speaker is a great repository for all the detrious i tend to have in my cars. ;-(
  24. WOW!!!!!! time to buy an undervalued '76 02 while they're still here.... this will definitely increase the value of 320i's as well. sadly, i've seen several really nice ones go down because of the sense of 'why bother with smog issues'.
  25. your score is certainly,.... GLOAT-worthy nice score. are you gonna tell us you got them for $20 or something???? i'd say 3 of those unused should fetch in the neighborhood of $1000 or more. TIPO 9's are desireable and old school.
