  1. Might be bearings also. If you need to replace them (inner and outer), do both wheels. Realoem has a good shot of the setup.
  2. Hi all, Starting to gather parts for the front big brake upgrade. I have regular struts so I need hubs from a '80-'82 320i as per the FAQ. Sourced all the junkyards and usual sites for 60 miles from Vancouver BC and no luck. Anybody in WA state can help in locating a yard with these parts? Anybody with an extra set for sale? Expecting the front rotors soon with new SS lines. Next will be back brakes. Will be pulling vented Girling calipers tomorrow from a Volvo yard. TIA Pierre
  3. That would be insulting to th gorilla!
  4. Hi Simon, Car had Cali plates and never seen it here in Kits. I think the Inka you are referring to was a local one owner li'l' old lady who died here and her son sold it off. The Cali car had a more faded paint scheme. If not then next time I see the Cali car I'll stop and say hi! Pierre
  5. Probably an early model due to nice skinny chrome bumpers. Drove by in my work truck in Kitsilano yesterday. Sorry but no time to stop. Enjoy your visit to our neck of the coast. Thanks for the good weather. Pierre
  6. I seem to remember Jeremy Clarkson dishing the 1 series Vs the VW or Audi in one of his test drives on TOPGEAR. Might of been an early model tho. Something about the back seat, price and a few other negative points. Maybe in diesel?
  7. Check all the grounds behind the dash. Might even want to add a new one to cover all the bases. Pierre
  8. Drastic response to ricers in California. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19339955/ I guess 02s should be safe from scrutiny but man, that hurts the pocket book. It seems that even if you aren't street racing, you can be caught and have the car crushed. When I was 18, I sure didn't have $10k for souping up a car like that. Hence the kids and hot parts. Can't say I disagree with the tactics but I still hope some recycling happens. Might even slow down auto theft a smidgen... Yeah right. Pierre
  9. DOPE! Nowhere does it say TPS! I wonder how I turned VR into TPS.... I'm going to take a serious look at the MS stuff I've already done to see what else I may of screwed up. I'll check some more tonite. No info on the MS site?
  10. From S14.net http://www.s14.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23302&page=2&highlight=tps He has the Bosch xxx.402 6-pin tps pin# - use 1 - ground 2 - signal 3 - 5vref Another bit of info with same TPS part number... on p/n 1707320 that cross references to BOSCH p/n 0 280 120 402 the pins are: 1 +5V reference 2 ground 3 signal 4 dont know, ground sounds reasonable 5 connects to 4 at WOT 6 connects to 4 at idle Your megasquirt wants to see pins 1,2, and 3 as these form the tpsensor, 4,5 and 6 are the tpswitch. Now both the above don't match description wise so.... Measure it... To hook up your throttle position sensor (TPS), disconnect the TPS, and use a digital multi-meter. Switch it to measure resistance. The resistance between two of the connections will stay the same when the throttle is moved. Find those two - one will be the +5 Vref and the other a ground. The third is the sense wire to MegaSquirt. To figure out which wire is the +5 Vref and which is the ground, connect your meter to one of those two connections and the other to the TPS sense connection. Good luck!
  11. I think I saw that info on S14.net. I'll log on and search in a few...
  12. Jack 'er up and remove the wheel. Check for play with the bearing. I'd even remove and inspect it to make absolutely sure. Pretty cheap part to replace. do both sides if you replace. About $10 (CDN - although we are getting better Vs. the greenback) a side plus grease iirc.... Maybe if the bearing isn't suspect (which i still think is the guilty part) rotate the tires and see if the vibe and noise comes from another corner...
  13. Wheel bearing I concur. Your description is exactly the sound that emanated from my F L wheel before it got wobbly at 60 MPH. Super fast slow down with E brake till a small gas station to replace. A small chance it could also be a tire wear issue?
  14. Lelio, The round pins are inserted from the back of the assembly, through the brake shoes and the little caps slide over the pinched looking end. I've never seen Ireland's setup but the insert holes are usually in the bottom third of the brake shoes/backing plates Their purpose is to keep the brake shoes flat against backing plate and limit movement. This is my next project too! Pierre
  15. Hey Mark, With regards to the S14 swap, the tranny mount is crucial to limiting the amount of vibration you get. Try for a later style rubber or urethane mount. I've read that it helps a lot.
  16. A friend called me and asked what might be the issue with a 1989 535i running on 3 cylinders only. Thats all he said. Any experience with that engine out there? My guesses are: plug wires, ignition setup/pickups, dizzy equivalent in motronic, ECU, injectors, plugs, fuel line... Any good sites for him to look at? Thanks, Pierre
  17. Thanks for the shots and the link. Easy to install? Promise I won't lick any round thing on the firewall.
  18. Not sure the Tii pump is enough flow. Pressure reg is needed. I'm looking for a 91' 318i pump. Supposedly fits right into my tank and reaches the bottom.
  19. If you get the full engine, you can recoup some of the cost if you sell the A/C pump, P/S pump, ECU and dizzy if you MS. Might be able to sell the S14 oil pan too if you install the M10 one.
  20. Nice Phil! Both the seat delete and the amp/woofer. Any chance you can take a few shots of your cage's mounting points? I'm trying to figure mine out and I like the idea of a bolt-on bar that holds the seat belts and maybe another bolt-on that allows access to the rear. What is the round thing on the rear panel? Thanks, Pierre pondhopper@shaw.ca
  21. I'm thinking of attending. Is it really worth while? I'd be flying in Friday and leaving Sunday from SFO. Decent airfare deals available till Feb 22 so I need to make a decision quickly. Parts might be interesting to get across the border but I'm willing to try! A real good selection of performance parts available? Where to stay nearby??? (Limited budget!!!). I'll look online but recommendations are welcomed. Any group hotel rates? Do they do group rides? If so, have a passenger seat available? Looks far from Quien Sabe. Darnit! Cheers, Canadapierre in Vancouver
  22. Bought mine with 106k, all auxiliary gear with a 265 CR tranny (haven't really checked it out yet) for $3500US last year. Shipping across the country was $550 from NJ to WA.
