  1. 1972 I was 10 growing up in San Antonio an saw my first BMW, an agave with tan interior. Didn't know what is was but I knew I wanted one.... Forty years later I get to be the custodian of a '73 Fjord from the original owner here in in Austin. I shouldn't have waited so long........ I love passing up aerodynamic "eggs" on IH35.
  2. Working on it....let me see what I can find. Thanks.
  3. This past weekend I experienced a major electrical short at the headlight switch connector. Appears a pair arced and ending up burning about 12 inches of wiring. I was able to pull over disconnect the battery and minimize losing the entire under dash wiring. Looking at the design of the connector, appears that this could be common weakness as the plastic "lanes" that separate the wires are pretty thin, coupled with age and use, could get brittle with age and fail. Having the wrong gauge fuse on No. 2 didn't help either. That should've given out first. Checking with the collective to see if this has happened with any frequency. Definitely going to check the rest of the switch connectors. I've got a WTB for a new connector and wiring. If anyone has a wiring loom, please drop a line. Thanks.
  4. Long story short; the connector on my headlight switch arced and burnt up about 12 inches of wiring. Looking for a replacement connector and as much of the wiring loom as I can get, the under dash wiring. Was not a fun experience to be driving and then smoke.......I was able to isolate the damage to the switch wiring. Anyone with a good wiring loom, please drop me a line. Thanks. g.
  5. Someone was nice enough to ding the left rear moulding at the belt line. Can't be repaired as it's pretty deep and long. Any got a good spare? Real OEM PN: 51135476175 Thanks.
  6. That looks like the right part. I'd rebuild the whole carb, kits not too expensive and baller908790 just posted a link to a pretty good "how to rebuild" a weber 32/36carb post in a UK Supra website: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/p,970742/sid,bb8f6ddf4946b286f5010bf5c8795e2f/ There are also a number of great posts on weber carb rebuilds, do a site search. I used cd sleeves as a FAQ member suggested to keep all the screws/jets/bits organized and it helped quite a bit putting it back together. Took about an hour. If it's pretty gunked up, you may want to let it soak in carb cleaner overnight.
  7. Still on. Looking forward to meeting more gear heads. See you all at 11:30
  8. Any interest for Friday lunch at Shady Grove? Around 11:30. Weather's been too nice to stay indoors.....and before ACL!
  9. Here's a schematic that I found here on the FAQ, shows the system in it's entirety. I pulled off my canister a couple of months ago and connected the vent line from the gas tank directly to the intake manifold. Have not had any problems. You'll want to connect the hard plastic line to the cloth/rubber line there in the trunk, that runs to the engine compartment, then follow it up to the firewall/engine compartment, you'll want to see where/how is either connected of terminated. I don't see the vapor storage canister in the trunk (No 19 on the diagram), so as of now, your gas tank is venting in to the trunk. You can also just vent this out the bottom of the trunk, euro style. Do a site search, it'll pop right up. Hope that this helps.
  10. I've searched and read some of the posts regarding rear window hinge adjustments and can't seem to get adjusting screw to a point that it binds the window at highway speeds. Does the screw wear down to a point that if no longer applies pressure against the center shaft, or does the screw carve a groove into the shaft that then looses it's grip? Any thoughts? Thanks.
  11. You may want to move up to 14 in wheels, expands the tire universe.
  12. Ditto on the fuel consumption. I drive quite a bit so I'm sensitive to fuel burn. Was getting 25 mpg on the stock 32/36, I'm expecting around 20+/- now. For me, it's a poor man's 38/38 using stock components.
  13. I was talking with Jason P late last week about this setup, didn't know about it till then, and went ahead and pulled the trigger and got one in from Pierce. Install is straight forward, hardest part is taking off the choke circlip and not loosing it in the process. I think the kits a little pricey for what you get, but it seems to be well fab'd and came with a good instruction schematic. If you're looking for an easy performance upgrade, this is it. Getting really good revs up to redline, much quicker than with the stock progressive setup. I've got to do a little tuning on the jets, but it's totally increased low-end response. I wish I'd known about this sooner. Anyone with a stock 32/36 should consider this upgrade, even if you don't know much about carbs. It's pretty easy to do and takes less than an hour. For newbies, I'd recommend taking the carb off the intake manifold so you have more room to work and check for leaks, jet size, etc. Haven't plugged up the secondary fuel bush like CD recommends, that'll be part of this weeks turning process. Thanks for the heads up on this Jason P.
  14. I thought about doing this, even went so far as to purchase the rubber bulb holders from the rear. Big issue is that you'd have to drill a pretty good size hole in the fender for it to accept the rear mount reflector base and I just couldn't get myself to drill a whole that big.
  15. Got some good parts. These listings are always on the west coast..... NM/NA http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/3262964762.html
  16. Les. We can try to get the SA folks together when your here.
  17. Thinking about installing the Pierce Sync-Link on my 32/36. Can anyone who's running this setup post what their best jetting setup is and if you're still running this setup? I've got a stock motor and cam with a vacuum dizzy and have the "ryansti" jetting setup. The most detailed posts were back in 2010 so any updates are appreciated. Also, running w/wo the secondary enrichment hole plugged as c.d recommends.
  18. Good to meet Jason P this past week and looking forward to meeting some other Austin 02er's. J and I spoke of doing a Pertronix install at the proposed 10/12 tech session, if anyone else has a specific tech issue they'd like to work on, please let either Jason or I know. More info to follow.
  19. Alex. Update the thread so folks will know when you ship(ped) items. Still waiting. Thanks.
  20. Anyone order, pay and still waiting? Just checking...... Best.
  21. I've read some of the archive posts and found that the besides it's normal function, the canister helps reduce the threat of fire if the carb backfires. Anyone run without the canister? Any additional risks/benefits if I yank mine out? Thanks.
  22. Looking for the mounting bracket that supports the OEM air filter. Got the adapter for my weber carb 32/36, but need the bracket(s) that take some of the load off the carb. Thanks.
  23. Les. I spoke with Rob the guy who worked on my car here in AUS. He's pretty good at panel replacements. I'll email you the contact information. Best. g.
