  1. I thought E21 had single circuit front calipers. Hence my puzzlement as to how PO got five pipes into three or four holes. I believe diameter is same as 2002, but I guess we're beyond that point.
  2. I'd revisit the connections on those straps. Did this start after exhaust work? Could it have been acting as a ground?
  3. Seems to me E21 has remote rear pressure valve.
  4. Depending on distributor, less. I can only speak from my experience. Starting with TDC static, I was not getting enough total advance. By setting to +/- 33 all in, and then letting car go back to idle (600 rpm) I saw about 10 deg. So TDC will work but I'd say maybe 5 BTDC will get you closer to 35 once you get the light on it.
  5. The AL89X looks the right item, but it is only 35A. Is that enough for normal use?
  6. Simeon is correct as far as the standard procedure goes: TDC static. That will get it started. However, if you eventually set for say 33 deg all in, you will end up with about 5 deg static as I recall. Idle is about 10.
  7. Does an E21 master have enough outlet holes? Did you replace the plastic bushings where the push rod connect to pedal? I'd be bleeding again. Give the rears a good run. I vaguely recall that if you put your foot on the pedal with engine off, then start it, you should feel booster kick in.
  8. I would set between 5 and 8 tdc static. I would mark the pulley and flywheel at 33 deg. For timing light.
  9. Good point. Do those push rods have the plastic bushings that sit in the pin hole?
  10. You are aware of the caliper bleeding sequence? Just checking.... And you did adjust the rears with the two bolt heads?
  11. I would revisit rear brake adjustment. Also, did you get the right sequence for bleeding calipers? Sometimes it takes the two person up-down bleeding to finish it off.
  12. Thanks for correction. i was wondering about that....
  13. I've used the "Gorilla Snot" 3M weather strip glue with success, but I like something like this for the corners: https://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/clamps-vises/spring-clamps/spring-clamp-set-22-pc-69374.html I agree, there is a lot of tension there.
  14. I have a bunch from the 80s and a reader. Not sure if that helps. With so much NLA, its depressing to look at them
  15. Thanks for the lead. They have all sorts of good stuff for retrofitting belts.
  16. has anyone found a work-around for the plastic bushing at the end of the linkage that snaps on the wiper motor?
  17. So its the E30 version. Any idea of how long that is?
  18. Oh, tii style. make sense. Anyway, belt tension is OK, not super tight but I have to remove the battery to really get at it. I'd have expected loose belt to show different symptoms. Belt doesnt seem to be glazed This is a brief flash, any RPM, not at idle. Temps OK in mid 80s weather. Can't see any wiring issues. I called the place that inspected the alternator last year and he said maybe early signs of brushes are going. Guess I'll haul it in there.
  19. Has anyone retrofitted the later style ratcheting adjusting bracket to the original Bosch?
  20. How did your alternator get down there?
