  1. M42 is a nice motor but when in an 02 the oil pan looks like it is to low. I have checked out a few and it sits well below the subframe. So if you car is lowered stick a set of wheels on the pan LOL. Secndly I was considering an M42 swap for a while. I did research on the M42 forum. Seems the guys had quite a few timing chain issues with them. I decided to stay away and stick with the more bullet proof motor which is the M10
  2. A ten foot tall Japanese Maple!! The doubters at the store know little of the 02 and its many tales!
  3. Killer BMW, more like a killer machine! http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/bmw-makes-4-old-dream-come-true-designing-233806289.html
  4. If you need a good high take up skydiving. If you want to have a blast driving then drive the 02
  5. I have always pulled my engine and reinstalled wthout the tranny. Just set the tranny in place. Also that way you can leave the hood on and drop the motor in from the side. Have done it several times and it is very easy
  6. Day custom engine is doing a head for me right now. Machine work is 125. New seats are 50 installed. They reface the rockers for 10 each. I bought new valves (stainless), new cam from IE (292), my springs are fine, singles (I don't rev over 5500 anyway) So the total on the job is under 1000 for a completely rebuilt head. I opted to have new seats installed. And I also learned (on the old head) not to use old valves. Just do it right
  7. Do yourself and your father a HUGE favor and get him something like this http://www.1800medalert.com/ You know that commercial "I have fallen and can't get up" My father was suffering from COPD from years of smoking. He was living on his own, was on oxygen and had a scooter. He would get to winded to walk more than 2 steps. But in the scooter he was happy, fun and seemed normal. I had visited my dad on a Friday morning. Brought him some beer, and some food from the store. We visited then I headed out. I called him on Tuesday but got no answer. So I emailed him...still nothing. A friend of his called me and said she was concerned as she had not received an email from him in days. I rushed over to his Apt (about 45 minutes away) I went in and he had died in the hall. He was laying on the floor in front of his scooter. I called 911 and they came. His scooter battery had died while he was driving down the hall. They said he most likely had been stuck there for several days and finally made an attemp to get out of the chair to walk or crawl for help. He would still be alive if he had been able to contact 911 I think about how he died often and how I could have saved himif I had thought ahead and gotten him one. Dont ask your dad, just get him one and make him wear it
  8. Thanks. So are these as good as later oem ones?
  9. I have been wearing these but still gets my hands dirty...but I sure look sexy under the car!!
  10. Just bought an E12 head from a local guy for my head rebuild. Head is super clean. I noticed the rockers looked different than the stock ones I have in the garage. So I compared them. These seem to be a bit higher qualityu and also are kind of polished. May be stock as far as I know but don't look like any I have seen. Second is the cam. I am trying to determine if it is stock or not as well. I saw no numbers on the sprocket end of the cam. Here are the numbers stamped on the cam body...12106100802 then further down a 14 Also has what looks like a V shape made with to ovals A few of the springs have a yellow paint spot on them as well
  11. I had planned on putting these on my car but I need to put a new head on, so may go EFI. Anyway, these came of a good running local 2002. I had them rebuilt. Has the complete air cleaners, linkages , the plastic insulator spacers, etc. I assume all the linkage is there as I have never put these on. These are spec'd with CD's setup so should be bolt on to most cars. Venturi is 28 instead of 32 so you will get more bottom end torque These are Italian carbs $550.00 takes them...shipping will run $25.00
  12. Need new only, no used, stock size. Thanks!
  13. Needs to be in good cond and usable. Not looking for a reground cam.
  14. I agree. I would rather be safe than sorry. No matter what it is it requires digging in. I have about 60k miles on this head. I have a spare E12 head so I plan to buy new valves, guides, seals and a 292 (non regrind)Cam, build another then swap them out. Just don't want to risk eating a valve and ruining an otherwise great running motor
  15. CD. So what is then cure? Buy new valves? The stainless ones are pretty inexpensive. I appreciate your post. That seems to make the most sense yet
  16. I have a 2002 MC, less than a year old. looks and works like new. Also I have 2 rebuilt front calipers. These were rebuilt less that a year ago and work perfectly. I upgraded to BBK so no longer need these items. Brake MC: $100.00 (new are now clsoe to 225 Both Calipers: $100.00 (rebuilts without cores run about 80 each)
  17. My car runs a hair rich. I thought about it the valves may be stretching a bit. I also thought that if it was a bad cam etc they would get loose. Cams don't usually grow in size LOL. At any rate I sourced a good e12 head. So just need a 292 cam and new SS valves, guides etc. I just think better safe than sorry with a valve head snapping and grenading the motor
  18. I have had this issue since I rebuilt the motor the first time. I have an IE 284 regrind, over sized eccentrics, stock valves and springs, new (when installed) rockers. About every 6 months my car starts to idle rough. I go to check the valves and sure enough 1 or 2 of the exhaust valves are so tight they are not closing all the way. So I adjust back to .006 or .007 cold. Car runs great until it happens again. So what the heck is causing this issue? Was it an error buying a reground cam?
  19. This should be in Off Topic, not in general as this has nothing to do with a 2002. I have been guilty of this as well but am on the road to recovery!
  20. I have had this on my car about a year. It is a stock 2002 brake MC. Functions perfectly with no leaks. I have upgraded my brakses and installed a different MC so I no longer need this. $125.00 plus shipping of $8.00 in the US
  21. I got the rear discs from Aardvark. On ther fronts I purchased the 320 hubs from a friend. Also purchased the Volvo Calipers and 320 Vented rotors from BLUNT. The fronts are a simple parts swap, I had to add a washer for clearance to get the rotor centered i the caliper. The rears are a bit tougher. Have to get the old hubs off, then the parts swap. Overall the swaps are not that hard. I had a frined help me and we got done after about 4 hours. The brake MC swap is also real easy
