  1. Joel, It was great to see you again as well! Truly an enjoyable couple of days. Great to see everyone again, i hope that all the travellers got (get) home safely! Cheers, Martin
  2. Elly's is a great place, been there a number of times - huge breakfasts! Since the show doesnt start until 12:00 I would suggest everyone that wants to have breaky meet there around 9:30-10 it should be right between the breakfast and lunch crowds.
  3. Well, i done did it now.... I've lurked on here for a long time and have had many cases of "project envy, so i finally bit the bullet. This weekend i picked up my newest pride in joy, a 69 2000 Automatic. I dont plan on attacking it anytime soon, it will slumber for the winter with an eye to getting to it this coming spring. As things progress I'll be sure to post on here. Wow...my very first project blog...im so grown up now...
  4. I agree with the others, take her around the block and then see how she sits. I have to admit, I had the exact same suspension set up on my 75 (i didnt reuse the spring purches), and she sat nicely.

  6. Wes, Yes, ive seen the blog, its quite the ambitious project! looks like its coming along nicely, way to go! Seriously though, car or no car its a great event, and a great place to meet other local 02er's. Its also a great place to see what other people have done to their cars, pick up ideas for your own project etc. I promise you wont be disappointed.
  7. You should check out some of the period factory colours. There's a almost midnight blue colour, I think its called Pacific.

  9. Wes, I know that Ben and others use Apex consistently, and their charges are quite reasonable. Best to call them and ask. Are you coming to Vintagefest on the 19th?

  11. I have to admit that i havent stayed at the comfort inn, but I have stayed at the CP, and its VERY nice. I also heard that they have a AAA rate too. Nothing against the Comfort Inn, but being local my recommendation would be the CP.
  12. welcome to the group! a nice, easy upgrade since you're going through the brakes is to go to stainless steel braided lines. Many places sell them, Bav Auto and ireland engineering come to mind. It gives you alot harder brake pedal.
  13. Jim, No i havent posted a blog (yet). I do more lurking then anything on the FAQ. The car is pretty much as you see it in the pic. It has 64000 original KM. I needed to replace the exhaust last spring, and a couple other rear axle things, including rebuilding the factory LSD, so i dropped the whole rear subframe and restored the whole thing. The front will get the same treatment at some point sooner then later. At that point i'll put in the CR steering box that i had remaned a few years ago ( benefit of working for ZF :-) ) Ive also got a CR 5spd that will find its way in at some point. Im trying to keep the car "original", so any changes that i make i want to be period correct. Thanks again for the note! Martin
  14. Tony, Congrats! The BMW dealers in Canada imported a handful of ti models in 70 and 71, they were the first of a long line of special "canada only" models that appear every once in a while, including the E34 M540i and the 1994 E36 Euro M3 that was never seen in the states, only 45 of those exist. My tii touring was one of two imported in 1972 by BMW distributors Western. If you contact BMW Classic with the VIN they can give you all the build info on your car. Contact me offline at tiitouring02@yahoo and i can find the person to contact if you're interested. The interior looks almost completely unmolested which is terrific!
  15. If you are planning to attend the Windy City Vintagefest and were starting to think about hotel rooms, I checked today on hotels.com and the Crowne Plaza Chicago North Shore is offering rooms for $89/night that weekend. This is quite a nice hotel ( I've stayed there so i can vouch for it) and it is only minutes from ZF in Vernon Hills. There's also a really decent breakfast place (Elly's pancake house) right around the corner so it makes it a convenient place to stay. Any questions, let me know. Cheers, Martin
  16. IMHO PB Blaster seems to be some of the best penetrating oil on the market. For cleaning up nasty hardware, there's nothing like Brake Cleaner, but if you want to shrink your "carbon footprint" there's always Simple Green and a toothbrush.
  17. I agree wtih Gthielen - cars that have been kept as close to original spec are getting more and more rare, so i think a car that's restored to its original spec will always be worth more then a colour changed car. But if you change the colour completely - including the floorpan, and its an original colour then the difference in values will be minimal (IMHO). I too dont begrudge those that want to change the colour of their car, its their car not mine. My touring is repainted in its original Polaris with Navy interior and i think its very pretty - and you dont see alot of polaris cars around - at least not out here. I had a Siennabraun car that i repainted original and got a bunch of flack for it while it was in the body shop, but when it was done it was REALLY pretty and i cant tell you the number of people who complimented the colour. Im putting my vote in for Golf. If you want to see a beautiful example of a Golf tii - go to: thewerkshop.net and you can see a restored (and colour changed) Golf tii. I saw the car in the metal - it was gorgeous.
  18. Hey Bruce, Yes, the group is still out there. Somewhat dormant, but every once in a while there's some activity. I know there was jsut a get together a few weeks ago - an informal swapmeet of sorts. Th alberta group is a little more active and i think most everyone on the BC list is on the AB group. to email their list, the addy is: 02list@alberta02.com Cheers, Martin
  19. Harry, Awesome pics!!! Thanks so much for sharing, Im sorry I missed it, hopefully I'll see you in 2010!!!!
  20. Hey All, Im sorry to have to let the group down, but i cant make it this year. My wife lost her job on Wednesday, so we're eliminating any "frivolous" spending. Im bummed. It would be great to be apart of such a large gathering of tourings. Hopefully next year. After the driving's done for the day, have a beer for me. Cheers, Martin
  21. basketcase you out there? Can you shoot me an email offline? tiitouring02@yahoo.com Thanks! Martin
  22. Happy Bday! I especially love the Capital City Auto licence plate frame. Capital was my dad's dealership! Cheers, Martin
  23. typicaly the wheel centers were painted anthricite gray from the factory.
  24. I found an interesting "abandoned exotics" thread, and while there certainly are some exotics in there, there are many fairly pedestrian cars shown as well. None the less its fun to peruse the pages and see what interesting cars people have left to return to their basic elements... if you go to the last page of the thread you will see a collection of abandoned 02s somewhere in europe.... http://www.supercarforums.co.uk/chatforum/viewtopic.php?t=30&start=0&sid=7758f63c77f690d5936b6ff86ac15cc4 [/url]
  25. I would suggest that you contac the "BMW Nederlassung Munich" this is the big BMW owned dealership and its about 1 mile from BMW Welt. Im sure the parts people there could order and get the parts for you and you could pick everything up while you're there. Also, when you go to BMW Welt, make sure to stop in the hourglass shaped area at the corner of the building, that is a technology display, and when i was there they were offering new 3 series ride and drives. I took a brand new 325d Touring for a one hour spin. It cost 20 Euro, but they give you 20 Euro worth of vouchers for use in any of the food service areas inside BMW Welt. Cheers, Martin
