  1. It does help a little. Virtually everything is out except re foam ant aluminum insulation on the firewall, and the brake booster and bracketry that connect that to the firewall and everything underneath it. I would rather take all of it out so it can all be cleaned up and repainted. When u took off the master cyl, I didn't notice anything leaky but I still want to take the booster off...
  2. Im taking everything out of the engine bay so I can clean it up ten paint it and am wondering about the brake booster (at the moment). Is there anything specific I need to do to ensure it comes off the "right way" Meaning I dont want to take things apart that I wont be able to puit back together and they work. Does the bracket and the booster come off together? what about the piston/rod on the inside? Is it connected to the piece that you can see from above that is inside the bracket (did that make sense)? That and the mount that it attaches to is what I am referring to. I need to get that off so I can wrap my harness in plastic so I can begin cleaning, sanding, and painting. This thread will grow as I move to other parts of the vehicle and have questions about those areas as well so please bare with me. TIA, Dane
  3. For my project car, I want to make one off flares and need to know what type of dense foam can be used to make the dimensions of my flares. I need a foam that wont react to the heat from the resin for the 'glas. the reason I want to make my own, is because I like to be different. There are a lot of people with the turboi flares, not so many with the group 2, less with the alpina and zender flares. I want to make something in between the group 2 and the box flares. The box flares to me look to E30 M3 and doesnt flow well with the lines of the 02, the alpinas are a little to "eh" as the rears arent that attractive but the fronts are nice. Again these are my thoughts on the flares that are out there. Bash me if you like but I wanna be differnet. Also, can someone link me to the wheel offset info that I thought used to be in the faq? I am looking at what wheel offset would fit something with a little less flare than the group 2 flares. I just cant seem to find the illustration of the wheel offset diagram. Thanks again everyone. I love this forum. When else can you "work" from home on Fridays, visit this forum WHILE taking the tranny out and dropping your subframes. L8R
  4. my recipe consists of a HX35 from the cummins desiel. head is built and has: +1 intake and exhaust valves (SS) Titanium retainers rocker locks dual springs race prepped rockers 292 regrind from IE very aggressive port and polish along with deshrouding of the combustion chamber The block will have ~91mm forged flat tops total seal gapless rings stock rods new bearings either o-ringed block or MLS HG balanced & polished crank race coated bearings ARP studs My goal is as close to 300 whp as I can get. Right now I will be using SDS for management but might sell that before Ieven use it for mega squirt. Im not sure yet. It will also have a 5 speed swap with either 3:45 lsd or 3.64 (still unsure) From what I hear the bottom end is damn near bulletproof on these motors as long as the tune is good. stock rods are supposedly good to 500hp.
  5. not sure about the wheels. They look nice on the 02. can I ask you about your diff? in your sig, you have a 3.45 lsd. where did you get it or who made it for you? What diffs were scavanged for the parts? That would be the perfect ratio for my build. You can email me at dane underscore kavanaugh at yahoo . com if you would rather coorespond that way
  6. Yeah but hes also running a newer (3.0L) motor that is turbo'd, right? Is this (the rear tranny setup) cost effective? Im assuming no but hey, never hurts to ask.
  7. Thanks all! This will speed things along I hope. What issues are there with the steering coupling?
  8. I will be doing this very soon...I hope, and am thinking that I read somewhere that if I do that, I will have to realign them once reinstalled? Am I out of my mind in thinking this? I was under the impression that the mounting holes were not 'eccentric', or have no adjustments. Just reinstall and im done, right? The engine is already out but I feel it will be much easier to clean the subframes, sand, and paint if I can do this without incident.
  9. incredible progress and build. Thanks so much for documenting all this.
  10. Awesome, I wonder how much fabrication the rear would take. What about the brakes? What booster and master would neet to be used? What booster would fit with a 318 intake mani?
  11. Read the thread and saw my screen name on the first page towards the bottom so I figured I would post as well. Loks like an awesome project and the progress seems to be moving quite nicely. Here are pics of my E12 head that is being assembled as I type this. Mine will have +1 SS valves, 292 cam, HX35 turbo, flat top forged ~91mm pistons. Good looking project
  12. Well I have a set of 205/50's in my garage that Iwas gonna stretch a little for the rears. That being said what offset would be required for the 8 inch
  13. Holy moly, thanks heaps... They have some of the nicest wheels ive ever seen. There website is attrocious but the wheels are fantastic! As there website says through rough google translation... "HTN rims has not everyone ... but everyone wants them!" lol Edit/ is that 530 Euros per wheel price tag :-| check out dubmeister.co.uk I've got a nice little stash going I'm thinking HTN renn sports in 15x8 or 14x8 n the rear to fill out my zender box flares.. handling be damned! What offset would be required to run the 8in wide in the rear for the renn's Those are the wheels I was looking at using for my project but Im not sure what offset for the 7's up front and the 8's in the rear
  14. yeah, not so much on the foiled bumper!!! I would seriously consider the "foil" job on my project but I cant find a spot in the US to buy the stuff.
  15. Has anyone seen this: www.foilacar.com There are countless different colors and different patters/designs that can be had. Now the big question, if anyone has any info of a place that sells this to the public, where can I get some of this?!?!
  16. try www.fap99.com They have a lot of stuff and even sell individual nuts and bolts. CHEAP TOO!
  17. try contacting a auto repair shop, they might be able to source a DS shop. Logically I would think they could since if a car comes in there with either a bent ds or a bad joint, they would have to send it somewhere. I know this might sound retarded, but did you google "driveshaft shop in Houston"? Edit: Googled DS shop in houston tx and this is the first thing that came up: http://www. ctdriveshafts. com/
  18. Im not to worried about the metal work...well I should say that it wont scare me away but it might slow things down a bit. I dont have a lot of time to get as deep into the project as I would want to so I am taking it bit by bit.
  19. down and dirty: converting to EFI using the 318 intake, SDS for the EMS HX35 for the turbo (shooting for close to 300 whp)!! The head is in the shop and who knows when it will be back. Its getting a complete rebuild down to the guides with +1 intake and exhaust SS valves, 292 cam, race prepped rockers, etc. the block will be rebuilt and have forged flat tops @91mm balbanced and fluxed crank. I have pics of the engine bay but we have all seen an empty engine bay before. It will get a color change but I have not decided on the color yet. Custom flares will be built for it, poly bushings everywhere, BBK on front and disc conversion in the rear. it will have a cage but Im not sure the extent...nothing like Pedro's thats for sure (mainly because Im not nearly as skilled as he is with metal work and welding) (This is copied over from my bf.c post) well I got some time in the garage today since my head is still at the shop and im not sure when it will be done. I figured that it wont cost me anything to start taking out the interior...so I started. After I took all the interior out, I noticed an issue that I didnt think was as big as it is (I knew it was there but didnt think it was this bad): Then on the rear passanger side of the "framerail" portion that supports the 1/4 panel has a bit of an issue, right next to the gas tank: The good news is the rear towers are in great shape: So..I have a lot of work ahead of me but no time to get it done. HOPEFULLY the head will come back soon so I can send the block down to the shop. Either way, this is gonna be a long project for me because I have a very full plate with school and my son being 1, and remodeling my house, and...
  20. he was local and came and picked it up today.
