  1. I am actually looking at both companies, IE and racetep, for a very large purchase; all parts to rebuild my motor for a turbo. Everything from the rocker shafts to the pistons. Reading this post it seems that its hit and miss for everyone, which is a little uncomforting to hear as I am looking at spending around 2K for parts. Im sorry to hear about your header issue but it seems that Jeff will fix/replace it with no issue. I am curious to find out if he pays for shipping both ways though as it cant be to cheap to ship a header. Keep us informed about the shipping. More than likely I will buy all parts for the head rebuild then the block. Jeff, I hope we can work together on this...
  2. Mine has been off the road since 2005...can anyone top that End of spring is when I hope to have her on the road. awaiting an engine build and brakes and suspension and...
  3. Are you a STL native? do you live around here?
  4. yeah its spotless, almost cant see it. The body, what I saw of it was really straight minus the chrome trim which was dented a bit. Im curious to see what they are asking for it without the motor. We'll see tomorrow.
  5. Here is the link to the bf.c forum that I can post pics a lot easier than here. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=12408267&posted=1#post12408267
  6. Yeah, I take the scenic route!! I'm on my blackberry so when I get in class I will tery to post the pix that I took. There wasn't an engine in the car, nor a hood on it but it looked to be in good shape. I did see a little rust on the under side of the ds a pillar. Possibly growing from the frame rail but until I can get ahold of the shop owner I cand really take a good look at the car as it is behind a fence. There is a "touring" mg right next to it that is in worse shape but the body style looked neat. Give me about an hour to get the pix posted. Btw, Dark interior, either blk or dark blue.
  7. a little ot but can the 2002 utilize a one piece driveshaft?
  8. nonetheless, I cant wait for the end of the day!! Being an IT project manager can only be interesting for so long. I think I will leave a litle early "for school tonight" so I can take a look at this car.
  9. I have been driving to Scott AFB for about 6 years and never noticed it until yesterday! Its in the side yard of a yard ornimant shop half covered by either a black tarp or a solid plastic bedliner. Its a big bumper squarie and the color is a light blue (whats the name?). I am planning on stopping by today on my way home to take a look at it, give the store owner a sap story about my grandfather having one the same color back in the day and had to sell it but has been looking for one for years and see if they are willing to let it go for cheap...depending on the condition of course. I will take pictures with my blackberry if they let me and I will let everyone see if as well.
  10. Any chance you will make the BMW club meeting at Growlers tomorrow 03-12? I can bring the dist... if so. John Hoffner Unfortunatly I have class tonight but I would much rather go to the meet. as for the bule car above, do you have a problem with rain or anything getting in? They really seem to be cosmetic...IMO
  11. Its just hard for me to justify buying new pieces just to strip them of the chrome. Other than it being unsightly, any real drawbacks?
  12. The trim that is located above the windows (gutters) that start at the front fenders...Is it REQUIRED? Mine is in pretty bad shape and when I tackle the body portion of my project I was gonna just remove the chrome trim altogether. Some have said that it is required to keep rain out of the car. from the looks of it, it is merely cosmetic. Am I wrong in assuming the purpose of this trim? If I cant get rid of it I will "shadowline" it. Thanks in advance
  13. Agreed! and maybe some shots of the first subject driving on all fours...
  14. Any possibility of geting the LSD shipped to 63012? Price of diff please?!?! I cant find a 320is anywhere around STL
  15. so the consensus is; nothing short of a lot of fabrication to get this to happen?
  16. That is what I am trying to find out. And to the post about welding the holes and redrilling, Im not sure that would be a good idea because of the heat treatment that would be required for strength and getting the holes precise for the 5X120 pattern.
  17. Its merely an idea. Since my 2002 is a project car I have no rush to get it done, other than the thrill of driving it. If it isn't a lot of fab work, its a possible item added to my parts list
  18. I have seen pictures of this but no writeups. Any pointers and doner car advice? There was a car that was built in Crete on the M2 website that shows a 7 series strut tube next to a 2002 strut tube but no other info was listed. Will the 7er parts bolt right up to the control arms? What other parts are needed in front? rear? Thanks in advance!
  19. From my experience searching and getting parts and price lists together for my turbo build, I would say that the parts will run you around 2500, more if you need the carbs to match. I say this because there are only a few different parts that you would need over a FI engine (304-316 cam, titanium retainers, billet rocker arms or some variant for strength, etc...) Getting the machine work done will vary in price but I have heard prices from 250-600 for the head work and 300-750 for block work. Depends on where you go and how much machining needs to be done. Having someone put it together should be a little cheaper than the machine work but probably not much. Add that up and you could possibly be better off buying a MM engine that is assembled with a warranty. As for a link try www.metricmechanic.com search around and you will find what you are looking for my.02 cents
  20. I would have put that gawdy monitor mounted to the dash in there.
  21. Where can I buy a onsie like that for my son!
