  1. I dropped my head off for its rebuild and the mech wanted to know if I wanted to deshrowd (sp) the chambers? This will be a turbo build and 8.5 cr. Is this a typical thing done to an E12 head for a turbo application? Do I need it done? Thanks in advance
  2. Why not go the water 4 gas setup. My dad is building a few for his companies fleet. Go to water4gas.com and read up on it. I was skeptical at first and honestly, I still am but my dad is gonna do it. It really doesnt look that hard to build the system and can be built for less than $200. a big IF IT WORKS, I have entertained using it for my turbo setup on my 2002. I feel I would be the only turbo 2002 using water as fuel.
  3. Thats the thing though...The PO (only owner other than me BTW) had them redone. I cannot get on fleabay either to see what they are going for, another blocked site compliments of the government. Would 350-400 be asking to much for these? Im in no big hurry to get rid of these because I dont have anything to replace them with yet. But if they are worth it, I will get rid of them. I just dont know what these seats have pulled in, in the past.
  4. Thanks a lot Eurotrash!! Sorry for being unable to host pics on this forum. Im on a military computer and they block any web hosting sites. For some reason bf.c works for hosting pics. I've never been able to host them here. So what do you think I can get for these?
  5. Not sure which forum this needs to be in so, sorry if this isnt the right spot. I am entertaining selling my front and rear seats. They were redone in 98 and maybe have 3K wirth of driving time on them. They are tan and they were restuffed with foam. Here are some pics http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=998133 Please let me know because I dont want to low ball my self or high ball a potential buyer.
  6. Thanks Mike for the input...It seems that my plans will continue towards a street terror car/weekend toy/HPDE machine. I dont think I could be competitive at those levels Mike, and a tube chassis is more than I care to do. All input is much appreciated.
  7. Thanks everyone for the responses. Toby, your answer is more what I was looking for, in terms of where I would stand with what my plans are. More than likely what I would do is buy an E30 and go spec racing with it...since everyone is pointing towards a "no way in hell I would be competitive" class for my 02. Thanks again for the responses and insight. Im not big into road racing a car...yet!!!
  8. http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50684&page=12 I have followed this thread since the beginning (almost) and have asked a lot of questions regarding the cam topic. feel free to browse this thread from the beginning (link above is page 12 of 13). The info from E30tech has helped in my decision. IXer on that forum seems to have a massive wealth of knowledge when it comes to turbo builds. Also if the cam has been tried and tested, why not use it? N8, the OP, seems to really like it! So...what class would the car be in?
  9. I am building a turbo 02 to MY liking but was thinking of what class it might be in if I were to get into racing. Any ideas? Specs will be: bored to 91mm forged flat tops with ~8.5 cr dual springs, oversized intake and exhaust valves 292 cam, 318 intake mani Holset HX35 SDS tuning big brakes all around coilovers rollcage. I hope to put down ~280. With that said, IF in the future, I wanted to get into racing my 02, what class would I be running in? Please dont say "if you wanna race the 02, build it for a specific class" because I might not ever race the 02.
  10. What could be a first for the 02 scene? A turbo 2002? There are several on this forum that have nice turbo setups. Search the archives Again, good luck and keep us posted.
  11. E30tech dot com is THE place to go fro turbo information. They have hundreds of pages full of threads dedicated to nothing but turbo'ing. I am in the process of turboing my M10. Tomorrow I should be getting the rest of my head rebuild parts. Im not doing it the easy way though, Im actually building my motor from top to bottom using forged flat top pistons with about 8.5-1 ratio, dual springs, titanium retainers, rocker locks, new valve seals and guides, race prepped rocker arms, 292 cam, oversized intake and exhaust valves... Im looking to have about 280 to the wheels using a holset HX35 turbo. Good Luck with you journey
  12. Nice picture of the clean engine!!! Just curious, can one go the opposite route and paint the entire engine black (head included) with no issue? That is what I was planning on doing but when I placed my order for the cam and valves this morning, i put a note in there for someone to call me because I couldnt find the lash caps and the website stated the oversized eccentrics were on back order. Jeff called me, rather quick by the way, and we spoke for a bit regarding the shafts. He gave some pointers on how to check them for excessive wear. More than likely I will replace them anyways. I will be purchasing the locks with all the parts that mtrotter had up for sale a while back...he was very kind and went out of his way to hold them while I waited for my now 9 month old boy to see the plastic surgeon. Mtrotter held onto these parts and is selling them to me. Other than the shafts, is there anything that I am missing for my head build?
  13. multi layer steel head gasket. Its can be reused if the head needs to be taken back off and its a good practice for turbo applications. Sorry, I meant the rocker shafts not rocker arms. The first post has been edited for this reason. Im getting race prepped rockers from mtrotter on this forum along with the rocker locks and cam gear and keepers. am I missing any other parts for the head build?
  14. MLS HG? Real estate mercury? heh What's this motor going to do? What you're building is about a 7500 rpm top end.... and spending about what I spent on my last shortblock! t Real estate Mercury? not sure what you mean by Mercury? The motor will be a turbo motor. with a Holset HX35 on it from a turbo desiel 2500 Ram. I know that the parts are a bit extreme for a turbo motor that wont ever see 7500 rpm's but its good insurance and its really not that expensive. Im spending a little less than 1K for head parts(not including machine work)...so far, and the bottom end will be around the same, maybe a bit higher but the bottom end will be discussed a bit later...when I finish the head and the wife lets me spend more on the engine.
  15. Soon I will be doing this and have a few questions. I have 3 heads to choose from: matching number E12 head off the car and 2 other E12's. the "stock" head is pretty dirty and has bad valve seals and possible guides, one of the other heads is disassembled and the other head is in good shape. I am using the head that is in the best shape for my turbo project along with the 318 intake mani. My questions are: Do the rocker shafts need to be replaced when rebuilding the head? Im putting dual springs, titanium keepers, rocker locks, "race prepped" rockers, adjustable cam gear, ARP head studs, 292 cam, MLS HG, and oversized intake and exhaust valves. Am I missing anything that I need to buy? I will be getting it ported and polished as well. any advice here? I plan on putting new intake and exhaust studs and all new timing components (chain, guide, tensioner, etc...) Is that everything I will need? Lash caps or oversized eccentrics? which is better? IE recommends one of these for the 292 cam. The bottom end will get rebuilt as well but that will be a later thread.
  16. Bought mine for 2500 from original owner and it had every single reciept for anything ever done to the car. still had the window sticker. The motor was a little on the downhill side but the body is a 15 footer. chrome strips are dented and need t obe removed. surface rust on the ds strut tower (around the bolt holes) rot on the pass floor board, and some rust between the trunk and the filler cap. None of which is visible from the outside. the interior was redone in 98 with foam and it still looks new. 105xxx original miles on it. Now its on jack stands awaiting a turbo motor rebuild, brake upgrades, suspension and a 5 speed swap. keep an eye out for rust it the strut towers and rear shock towers and floorboards. Other than that be patient and find one that someone knows the history on.
  17. From all these responses it looks like a no go as I dont want to go "SOLID everywhere. Im young (26) and like having a nice back Thanks for all the responses!
  18. Good points! anything else? Not that these arent enough. Just a little worried about going through guibos with the "hopeful" ~280 whp from my turbo setup
  19. Would this cause trouble anywhere? There is a DS shop not far from my house and was thinking of going this route so I dont have trouble with guibos once im turbo. Comments please
  20. thanks for the link. What industry would this fall under so I can look locally?
  21. JK where did you send the parts off to make the mold? I will need to find a place to send mine off to when I get to that point.
  22. I plan on taking the same approach...making my own kit. Not as wide though and it probably wont happen till sometime late this year.
  23. slave cylinder? To me , if you push the clutch in and try to start the car, and it jumps forward, the dclutch isnt totally disengaging.
  24. Well it does come with the motor and tranny, rebuilt motor a while ago (he says it needs all new seals and gaskets tho). he is ASKING 800.00 If anyone here is interested in this car I can put you in touch with the owner. I have not looked at the car since I took the original pictures but I can go there and get more detailed and better pictures of inside and under the car if someone is seriously interested.
  25. Actually I was considering not using the trim pieces at all. As for this weekend I am up for a project, however, htey are the projects on the honey-do... Finish the tile backsplash in the kitchen, replace some trim, paint a little,...,...,... its neverending i tell you!! I joined the BMWCCA last week and I will most likely be skipping class in the upcoming weeks to visit Growlers Pub. I guess I will need directions to the pub though.
