  1. So I propose that someone with more fabrication skills than I make a little rubber gasket that fits over the gas fill tube so that those stupid vapor recycling gas guns don't leak gas all over our 02s. I suspect a sort of fitted rubber gasket that could be temporarily attached just before gassing up might solve the problem nicely. there! call me the idea guy, and get to work!! seriously, id be willing to invest some cash, and it would be great addition to the FAQ store-- but me, i don't know how to make a rubber gasket--- anyone???
  2. i don't remember any spring being attached. if the cylinder is not retracting, its not the fault of the lever arm, but something wrong with the hydrolic system, - you need to replace all the soft rubber lines in that system. if they sat for a while - especially dry, they can crack on the inside and constrict. and leak and such. -my guess anyway
  3. does it start if you roll start it? a weak starter motor can seem like its doing the job, but just not quite - especially if somethings else is a little off- and a roll start can test that and get you moving at least.
  4. mine is doing a similar thing-- even if the ticking continues-- that does not mean that your flasher relay is working properly-- get a new one, generic ones work fine for like 8 bucks. - worth a test.
  5. the general category is great- but also the threads go like gangbusters sometimes-- and its hard to keep track of the ones you are watching-- some sort of categorization would help I think- make z work! make z work!
  6. dude, sounds like a deal. if it comes with linkage and manifold, the manifolds you can use even if you go with webbers or mikunis later - and yeah, usually 100 for those even well used. but dont get webbers, those are even harder to tune and well, they just aren't right for the car. leave them to the alfa romeo where they belong!! but, if its reliability you are looking for, just get a really nicely rebuilt stock carb. thats exactly what its for no? and go get those and sell the whole set up to me! it doesnt get cold here nad I like the solex, and id love to get the proper linkage for the set i have in now!
  7. sounds like that to me to. if you just put on the carbs and this problem began, best chance is that its the carbs. shoot a ton of carb cleaner down there, or you might have a larger particle stuck in a jet - pull those and make sure they are clean, check your float - backfiring out your ass usually means you are getting too much gas, so id check your float-- sometimes the pin can get stuck and flood you out. definately its something up with your rear carb
  8. it kinda depends on if he means just the carbs, or if he has the manifold and linkage. if he has those two you are golden. if not, then 50 bucks is about right - i got original manifolds, and a non-original linkage (funked together) plus carbs for 200. i don't have the choke hooked up, which is more linkage i never bothered to figure out. manifolds alone can be like 200 if you cant find a deal. i live in california-- it never gets that cold. but even if it gets down to freezing-- it still starts ok - I assume the choke wold help!! you do need the tubing off a 320, and the little port off the front of the head, otherwise the stock one gets in the way of the manifolds. they are an adventure to tune, and no one is able to help you. plus getting jets is kind of a nightmare - have to order them from italy (only place i found them) you might want to make sure that his are jetted towards a reasonable engine and not some racer-- or it will never work on your around town car. on the other hand, they sound cool and work alright. and definitely have a big cool factor.
  9. getting smoke, on accel or decell? decell is valves, accel is rings.-- i didnt get good compression with mine either. do a cold compression test with just the starter motor and see what you get. - its usually less accurate, but if your pouring unused gas all over the cylinder you arent getting an accurate reading anyway-- its like doing a hot on 2 and a cold on 2, so of course the cold two look bad. just telling you cause i almost dropped a pile of money and woah! it was just two screws!
  10. if you push it while its not running you can often hear which wheel is dragging, or just jack it up and try and turn the wheels until you find the stuck one. if they all turn freely try pressing the brake once, and see if one or more stays slightly on. if one does, turn the bleed valve and fluid will shoot out and the brake release. if this is the case, replace the non-hard lines on that brake - they get old- and may look fine on the outside but be constricted on the inside- opening under pressure, but constricting when you release, keeping the pressure on your calipers-- my guess-- happens when stored--so-
  11. not sure about the delorto, but i had a similar problem with my dual solex, i thought my engine was fubared-- but turns out i had a misalignment of two "adjustment screws" thats what real oem calls them anyway, but it looks like they are synchronizing screws, that make sure the mix is even across the carbs. basically i wasn't getting an even feed of air per gas, looks like I was flooding 1 and 4 and starving 2 and 3, so 1 and 4 would work for a bit when it first started, but would get worse as you drove - and also depending on the weather-- you know. they would be fine at idle, but dog terribly under acceleration - and i had smoke - clouds of it! fixed those two screws and the smoke disapeared and it suddenly can go up hills and hit 80mph in less than half an hour. - this is assuming that you have already checked all the electrical crap--, changed spark plugs, cleaned distributor contacts, new plug wires, maybe a new coil, etc etc-- id also check change your inline gas filter and check the vacuum on your advance (if its vacuum). good luck--
  12. Yo - as far as I know the GTV6 booster is also the same as the non ABS Milano booster. - so if your hhunting alfa boosters dont forget the milano- meanwhile: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/showthread.php?t=33585&highlight=gtv6 might be a good source--
  13. I regularly drove my 02 in winter upstate New-York, often 10 F weather and I did not have this problem - what I did have was cancerous rust that ate the floor out from under me - but it was plenty warm. so yeah, its not a normal condition- get a new thermo!
  14. i bet its gone. some local swooped it I suspect-
  15. damn. thats a tough one. I assume you adjusted the lever arm going into the master cylinder? sorry I am at work and usually work on alfa romeo's and havn''t looked at this on an 02 - but it sounds to me - if it was an alfa, that your lever arm - part of the linkage form the pedal to the master cylinder has lost its adjustment, thus stomping on the pedal is only giving you a percentage- maybe 50% of what you think you should be getting. this linkage can get torqued after hard use -
  16. Did you notice an rpm band in which this hesitation occurs? that can help identify the problem. there is a distinctive transition between the idle and main jets, which if they are not tuned perfectly can easily give you a hesitation under hard hesitation - even if both the idle and mains run well on their own. if your air corrections are too large you can miss at peak rpm as well-- I run dual side solex, so my hesitation problems are more pronounced that yours would be, but even if it seems super smooth under normal acceleration, you can still hit the transition badly if you punch it. sorry i dont know anything about plugging holes- but i suppose its worth a shot as the FAQ says to do it!
  17. if you pull it and put it back in yourself, you can get all the work done on it for 400 to 500 if you shop around and ask where to go- thats parts and labor ask a shop you trust what machine shop they use. and take it directly there. you still have gaskets and bolts etc- add 100 bucks. so 5-600 bucks even if you pull and replace yourself. add 4-500 if you get the shop to do it. 1000 dollars to just bring it in and have it done.
  18. as far as i can tell - your basic plug from any established maker will do the trick just fine. Buy a couple of brands of cheap standard plugs and try them until you are satisfied, then keep with that brand. Autolite seem to stay cleanest and run best for mine, so i use them. but next car- it might be something else! not sure if this applies to tii people. I don't have a tii, but ran platinums in my SPICA (mechanical fi from a similar era) alfa and had no troubles. so maybe they work for the KF as well-?
  19. the plastic fuel return line can have a pretty good kink in it where it bends up from the floor boards, around the seat belt, over the wheel well under the back seat. as the line gets old, it can crack at that kink- specially if you live where its cold. (which I guess you don't-but maybe your car did before??) id take the back seat out and check where it kinks-- and you can always replace the whole line jsut to be safe- they sell that stuff at most hardware stores.
  20. I wonder if we could ask people who post their ebay auction in the Classifieds section to donate to the FAQ a % of the sale, just as they have to pay ebay. It seems strange that the free minded faq gets the shaft while supporting a commercial auction site - I mean, posting your ebay auction is not even a "classified" its just an ad, pretty much the equivalent of SPAM - even if its targeting topic SPAM. maybe we need a separate AUCTION section on the bottom that they can go in? -j
  21. i talked to him briefly- I wanted to know why the korman head cracked-- and how the car got so smashed up. seems like it was treated pretty badly! must have been racing a lot- i was worried there is more damage as one dug deeper.
  22. I have that same connection on one of my blocks-rubber hose and a pipe clamp. - it looks way crap compared to the block with a nice bolted on panel and attached dipstick tube. The one with the panel is a '70, the other I am not sure, havn't checked the VIN actually- i suppose i should! funny thing is, the one with the panel leaked - heh. so maybe the tube is an easy splice in to fix that leaking--
  23. when I left college i took all my stuff, shoved it into my 02 until it was FULL to the top everywhere but drivers and passenger - and a buddy and I took off from Rhode Island to Oregon. stock 76, carb held together with bailing wire--- could still hit 100mph out in arkansas and such. I fit my whole life in that car!
  24. hey - thats great someone on the FAQ won! yeah, give us all the details! 100 bucks of my money went to that car!
  25. I was ticket 144- 192 won.
