  1. I lost! but some lucky guy named Eric won- heres the pic i got as a loser-
  2. agree re above- I drove from oregon to new york and back with a 4 speed, hitting 100+ out in nebraska and such- only problem was when an exhaust bold rattled itself free in colorado- but the engine is fine- i was doing 700+ miles a day- 12 hour days- you get used to it and you dont even notice -
  3. If you could, what else is different between the roundie vs square back seats? my roundie back seat is in typically delapidated condition, and was thinking - can I jsut replace it with a later model's seat? the fronts are already recaros- so its not like its original anyway--
  4. you know, i think my brother has that rim- or very very close, he didnt know what it was, and his are gold- but it looks so familiar- ill ask him.
  5. wow- thats an awsome rim. hmmm - now only need three more- I dont suppose you know how common those are and the chances of finding the other three? i suppose now I could use it as a supremely pretty spare-
  6. i put the word out to my alfa romeo connections, just in case they had a good source- no word back yet- but i just did it today. see what comes- its a bit tough, because it sticks in the craw of some alfa people(but not all!!) to help a bmw type--
  7. just checking to see if anything came of this-- and keep the thread alive- -j
  8. its hard to tell if the price is high until you see it in person. if it has as little rust as it seems to from those pics, - I am sure there is little chance of it going under 1000
  9. maybe in other states its fine to register a car with just the paper, but in oregon an out of state car needs to be inspected before they will register it. that said, I did do some investigation into taking a CA salvage vehicle to oregon to register, (as that was one plan). I never did go through with it, but from all i read it was not going to be prohibitive. just some extra fees - probably 200 bucks all told. check with the CA rules, then states close by - obviously arizona - and see what their rules are. my arguement when my car got backed over (SUV on a alfa spider) was that all i wanted was to be back exactly where I was before. this seemed to be a convincing argument when i backed it up with a few estimates from a few body shops.
  10. its gotten cold and wet recently? didnt do it when it was hot and dry all summer ? got to be something to that-- unfortunately a head gasket will also be worse when the weather is cold (and wet) but it might be coming in some other way- from the environment - spark plugs are tight and sealed?- your brake booster vacuum tube is not left open to the air is it? is it old and cracked?
  11. did you try and drive it when it was smoking? if it responded fine at the pedal then its not your headgasket. if its smoking that much it would also run like crap until it warmed up. if it was running fine (as fine as any 02 before its warm that is) then its something else. check your oil for froth and radiator cap for goop just in case though. edit: headgasket: once it stops smoking, it won't start again until it is fully allowed to cool- you may have to leave it for several hours before it begins to leak again. - so its no surprise it does not smoke after you turn the car off - the block/head are actually hottest right after you turn it off, hotter then when its running! seals it right up! sorry, but if I had to bet; id say its headgasket.
  12. I am with you- thinking of removing the center console completely- maybe someone wants mine? I could be up to trade it away. since I am not that interested in keeping it I havnt even looked at the condition closely- but as i recall its not bad. some fo the braketting inside has been cut i think - I mean, i dont have a radio, i dont smoke, and my flasher is already on the dash. makes the center console look sort of superfluous-
  13. yah- flush is the problem and hardness of the stud is going to give you a pile of pain trying to drill. my guy simply welded another bolt to the flush stud end, I held the bolt in place with a long tongs(it wants to slip when the metal gets soft, so be carfeul), and he the wire and torch- with a bolt its easy because you can then just stick a wrench on there as normal and turn.
  14. i had two such head aches when i got an old alfa: i was tearing it down anyway so i brought the head into my local shop_ guy just took a bolt of the same size and welded it to the sheared end. twice, worked like a charm, came right out and he charged me 20 bucks for both. course I had to help him hold the bolt in place as he welded. now this guy is good and friendly- but it can be done is what I am saying.
  15. I've had good luck with Geico as well, despite the sometimes annying commercials, they do seem to come through when you need them. seems like they are so big they dont mind paying out on this sort of thing - because they know it all comes around anyway. Go get a quote or two to fix it, and they might just agree to pay it.
  16. be reassured - it fits and the electric fan works fine. seems like someone posted a FAQ about how to wire the fan, but I didnt see it in the Faqs - so maybe im nuts. the electric fan is loud tho- thats the big drawback - and getting the thermo properly set so it only turns on when its needed- something i still havn't got down. mine just runs all the time-
  17. landscapers might take it yeah, if its not too bad they could mix it use it- depends how finicky they are about their equipment. give it to someone with an old chainsaw that doesnt care about a few extra particles in the gas-
  18. thats a good question: what do people do with the gas? just poor it out and let it evaporate? If I was in oregon id just slop it on some dirt and burn it- but what about in the city-??
  19. heh, i got 2 vws and a bmw- ever see "froggy" on Doyle st. ? big green camper van? it kinda works. its my secondary project. I am working tonight - still now at 10pm, so it will have to be weekend after next-
  20. hey, sorry about that, someone sent me a bunch of plans on pdf, and it filled me up--- it should be ok now. Yeah? you are tearing apart that 320 competely? i actually just got an engine from ibjettin, as soon as I have time I am tearing it down for a "rebuild" but I am also still kinda looking around in case someone has a real nice performance build sitting around not doing anything. - IN any case, id like to come by and chat, see what you got in the works!
  21. he notes he has an extra trunk lid to go with it- surely not the same color - but what the heck - if it was perfect it would be going for 12,000! heh.
  22. its steel right? just hit it with a hammer! heh. he says in the discription that the right front wheel has a curb dent, maybe that wheel used to be on the left rear when he took the pctures- but he moved it to the front recently..
  23. heh- if that is a PROJECT in capitals- i'd hate to see what my car qualifies for. -
  24. looks like a "buy" to me. someone should jump on that. its not far from me, if anyone really wants I could go take a look- but with that buy it now it might go at any time!
