  1. I'm looking for the bracket that bolts to the transmission that suports the exhaust bracket. For a 1975 2002 with stock 4 speed.
  2. I'm in New Castle (near Glenwood Springs). Driving my 02 daily on the western slope. One other 02 in Silt and that's about all i know of on this side of the state.
  3. There is a fast idle adjustment screw that is on the choke linkage side of the carb. It should work fine to adjust the idle speed when the chokes are closed. I get consistent starts and adjust the initial speed to about 1600 rpm. My manual choke is a Pierce Manifold conversion and i find it works well when the cable if pulled out fully. The motion of the choke plates is adjusted finely by accuating the cable however the idle speed does get much fine control by accuating the cable.
  4. Fun Elan, I had a local shop install springs, shocks, mounts that I bought. I should have done the job myself. After they could not figure out what was binding in the steering i took it to another more reputable BMW shop and they found out that washers were installed improperly. Something still did not feel right and then cracks started appearing on the mount. Took it back to reputable BMW shop and instructed them to replace with BMW mounts. They said as soon as the others were out they could tell they were the wrong part. The first shop should have compared parts to begin with. After it was done the first time I was lost because I had never taken apart that assembly before. Anyway I talked recently to Carl Nelson and he mentioned he has seen a number of problems just like this with aftermarket mounts. Best bet is to go with BMW parts here.
  5. Check to see that you have the right part. I just finished my 2 year hassle with this same part - steering binding / popping, etc. Same cracks like your photo. Turned out to be the wrong part. I'm done with Bavauto as I've had other issues with them as well.
  6. If it the trapezoidal shaped plate that connects on the choke plate shaft then it is a pressed fit. I have had earlier weber carbs where that was secured by a cotter pin. I've had two more recent carbs where that has fallen off and there is no clip or pin. It is soft metal and is a bad design. I have used JB weld for temporary repairs or you can buy a new choke plate shaft with that pices pressed on.
  7. What is it's function? It seems like a good idea but I recently pulled one joint off of my car and there was no washer ( this was on the car for many thousands of miles). The washers were present on the other three. I pulled 2 joints off of a spare halfshaft that I had laying around and sure enough no washers? It seems that the circlip holds the joint on one side and the notch on the shaft at the end of the splines hold it on the other.
  8. Anybody caravaning thru Colorado / Kansas on I-70?
  9. Disconnect the fuel line after the pump and route to a catch can. Crank the starter to see if the pump is working. If fuel is getting to the carb and no start then check for spark. Any loose wires? Disconnect a plug wire and hold close to ground, crank and observe the spark condition.
  10. I have run stock springs and Bilstein HD's for quite a while and like the setup for a daily driver. Ride height is good for city streets and I never scraped the air dam yet it is fun and tossable in the corners. I just replaced this setup last year after 200k miles. I bought the springs from Walloth & Nesch as they had a great sale. If I remember the stock springs I bought from BMW 10 years ago were quite expensive and made all the aftermarket stuff look like a good deal.
  11. i have full coverage w/ Allied. Is that dog going to be OK?
  12. Try this link http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/aim/aim.html
  13. I'm in New Castle on the western slope and I-70 and CO hwy 82 get mag chloride. I thought all the CDOT highways got mag chloride. It is nasty stuff so I park the 02 and drive my 88 325ix.
  14. Try World Upholstery. I did my seats last year with that color and was a nice match.
  15. Thanks to Mike S. and Napa02 for helping me recently in the diagnosis of my sticking caliper . This was a rebuilt unit with only 12,000 miles. I was able to source another rebuilt one from brakewarehouse.com, the only place I could find selling these now. And thanks to all who contribute on this forum as it is a great tool in helping us keep these wonderful cars on the road.
  16. That one should work fine. Route it with a gentle radius to avoid binding. Tighten at the carb enough so it does not slip but avoid overtightening so as to not break the cable.
  17. I checked again this weekend. Pulled the wheel after a drive and everything was hot , rotor, caliper, hub. I checked caliper and one piston did not seem to retract as smoothly as the others. The rotor had a blue color in places. Sticky caliper?
  18. 1981 - 17 years old -my first car a $300 1968 1600-2. Changed my life forever. Would I let my daughters drive one? Good question but I think it could be positive with the right person. Teach and stress defensive driving as the car does not have the modern safety things like airbags and the avg. size of vehicles on the road has become so large.
  19. Rebuilt caliper and new rubber hoses all with 12,000 miles. How can I tell it's the brake binding? Car does not feel like it is pulling to left side but the hot wheel left me wondering about the brake.
  20. I drove home yesterday hearing a high pitched squeal coming from the left front wheel area. Mainly heard while driving straight above 20 mph and in left turns. Changes pitch in the turns and over bumps. The left front wheel was hot to the touch when i parked. I pulled the wheel and outer bearing for inspection. Grease appeared as new with no burnt smell and no dripping. Using Valvoline synthetic disc brake bearing grease. The bearing looked fine with no discoloration or marks. If anything the adjustment seemed a little tight so I repacked the bearing , re-adjusted and put it back on the road. Same noise today and still a hot wheel. I'm thinking of buying a new bearing set and replacing as maybe it's the inner bearing making the noise? Bearings, rebuilt calipers, rubber brake lines all replaced last year and have about 12,000 miles on them. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
  21. Thanks Max. I am confused with the picture though. Does that piece go below the air cleaner over the carb opening ( which is what i am looking for) or does it fit on the end of the air intake?
  22. Looking for the oval rubber gasket / isolator that fits between the 2 bbl. carb. and air cleaner . I believe it is item 12 on this diagram. Thanks 20080819131603231.pdf
