I use Castrol 20W50 all year in California, 167k on original block. Change it once per year now since I only drive 1500-2000 miles a year.

If I had a motor with less miles on it I would use SWEPCO 306 20W50 or Brad-Penn...

Swepco...

Brad Penn

But in my current beater motor I pretty much use whatever 20W50 I can get my hands on... Castrol is my preference though.

thanks for all the feedback.

I just got back from browsing oils, and couldn't find 20/50. The closest I found was 15/50 - Mobil 1. Is this crapola?

Where do you get the 20/50? I'm in the sticks, so it's always a challenge to buy retail.

btw, I think this would be a good candidate for the FAQ section.

ok, I see the Amsoil is the name to go with. Now where to find it.

+1 For Valvoline VR1 20w50, read about the ZDDP and thought I'd give it a try. Engine has 63K original miles and pulls like a beast.

interesting... in a 50 mile radius, I get 3 personal homes. I'm really in the sticks.

Not at all. I run Mobil 1 15/50 synthetic in my m20 (and the m42 in my 318is). You can get it cheapest at Walmart.

Thanks John. That's actually where I was. We have a super-duper wally world (1/2 hour away) with the best automotive dept I've seen for their stores. They have an enormous wall/display of oil. I'll give it a try, since I have it.
