Shift Boot Part Number?

Recommended Posts

My rubber shift booth was ripped , so I ordered a new one.

25111206881 was replaced by 25111208773.

The 733 is made of vinyl fabric . I would like a rubber one like my original.

Part number 25111100582 is also listed. Anybody know what it looks like?

I have a 74 Tii.

I think the boot you need is part of LOT 2 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,337347/. If it looks familiar, you'll get a good deal on it plus some other useful bits. Not mine, just noticed it there.

Maximillian still show part # 25111206881 ($27.36) being good. Have you tried calling them to verify?

Be careful about buying a new square "accordian" shift boot. I purchased one (from Max) and it made my car pop out of gear, so I pulled it back out and went back to my good ol' leather bootie (aka witches hat).

The original ones that came on the cars were made with a much more flexible rubber. The new ones are way too stiff (when new).

This has been discussed here a number of times.

Perhaps letting it soak using my wife's facial cream will do the trick. I havent replaced mine but I appreciate the warning. :)

I had the same problem when I purchased the new boot. I had to go back to a vinyl/leather boot.

Same thing happened to me with my recent 5 speed job.

I think that there must have been a run of repros, or reissues, that were clumsily cast too thick, and from a too-hard compound.

The originals have a "pebbled" surface and are nice and thin / pliable.

If you get stuck with one of the stiffies, chuck it in the garbage, don't sell it to the next chump (like me) on ebay. They are garbage.

Finkbuilt.

I had the pebble grained boot on my touring and the judges at an Oktoberfest took a point off of me because they said they were for an e-21. Not that it is a big deal to most, including me, the pebble grain one may not be for a 2002.

For what it is worth. I have the new boot on the touring and the yellow car, both five speeds and I have not experienced the jumping out of gear problem.

I do have short shift kits on both and the boot would tend to push the shift knob (push on type) off of the shift lever on the yellow car. I took a razor blade and cut about 1/4" off of the top of the boot and all is well now.

Tiger,

I ordered the stock square/accordion boot from Blunt last summer. My records show this - part no. 25 11 1 206 881 - $27.99. It fits fine my 4 speed and has not pulled it out of gear.

PS - will you be playing at the Masters this year? :)

The pebbled finish is the original boot for a late console.

My brothers '02 has a smooth boot(not original, but was a repro from Bimmer Parts Co.) and 5 speed with no problems popping out of gear.

CJ does "late" = square light?

Sorry Bill, by late I meant anything with the long console or square shift boot. We(SteveJ, Armond, Mo and SteveK) actually had a discussion about it at the '02 show last May when we found one on the ground! We asked around and no one claimed it. At the end of the day, one of the guys with a "smooth" boot took it and was very pretty ecstatic. He had the "popping out of gear" thing going on.

Hope this helps- Cris

So you are saying the 72s should have the pebble grain boot? 72s have a long console with a square hole

Two very respectable judges told me differently. Maybe one of those things to debate with no real answer.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
