Parts #'s kickin my A**- whats the trick?

Recommended Posts

I've searched all over the web and here, but can't find ANY info on these "BMW" part numbers of the wiper and turn stalks in my 79 02. The PO upgraded to a 74-76 wiring harness but these remained. Any idea what I have?

On right side: wiper stalk 01835601 1 357 011 (I've checked this 3 times, it's not a typo) I think I need a 1357 004 (maybe an 002 is ok?)

On left side: turn indicator stalk 01815811 1 356 294

I think I need the 1357 000 or a cross over?

I'm trying to check to see if these are compatible with the 74 harness. Seems the wiper is def not. Not sure about the turn switch.

Help!

...... and BMW Part Numbering system werkz this way ::

00.00.0.123.456 ya's needs 11 digits

many parts on the car have what's called 'casting numbers'

from the vendor who makes the part for BMW - and it's not

a BMW catalog Part Number. Not the same number used

for ordering parts. And BOSCH has IT'S unique numbering

system for it's components. There is a BMW PArts Catalogue

available on CD from any BMW dealer -

try ordering CD (2003ed) part number 72.00.0.301.255 -

or the older CD (2000ed) 72.00.0.018.258

Warning - your new wizbang computer may not run the disk

very well?!?!?

Last time I checked it was $42.75 list price

Then you'll have every odball washer and fidgit part

on your car at your finger tips

some more examples of 'good' part numbers~

same steering column stalks for all three years, with one minor exception.

All the left side stalks (hi/lo/headlight flasher & turn signal) are the same.

Right hand stalks (wipers/wash-wipe) are the same, except some 75s and 76s have an extra positon on the wiper switch for a 5 sec interval wipe in addition to low and high speeds. If your car has that, the wiper relay (under dash just above the hood release, marked "Wisch-Wash) will have 7 terminals vs 6 for the non-delay setup. You can use the 3 position stalk in a car with no interval relay; you'll just have no action when the switch is in that position.

If you're in need of these stalks, betcha someone on the board will have a good used one for ya...

I think it would help to post some pictures.

Some of your numbers seem like they should be correct 1 357 011 fits the right pattern, but I can't make any sense of the first numbers, and those last numbers don't match up to any 2002 switch that I could find - as CD points out, the BMW part number system is specific in the 11 digits and lay out. Have you checked out the RealOEM site?

guys, he made a typo for the year of his 02, it is a pre-74 model.

i say if there is a 74 wiring harness in the car then replace whatever switches you need with those for a 74. check realoem, maximillians site or call the BMW dealer near you for the part numbers, then order from whoever.

might have been valid in the olden days when first produced, but have often been superceded a handful of times since then. Parts pix and application can help US help YOU!

Thanks for noticing that typo. It's a 70 02. I used spell check, but I didn't use braincheck!

I was assuming that RealOEM and Max sites would provide all the part numbers in the production run.

I'll pick up a copy of the parts CD. Are these available from third parties, or is this a dreaded trip to the dealer?

Thanks.

and Max's site actually show what is still available for purchase!

The Historic Parts Catalog that was/is available from the dealer needs an old OS to run. I have it on my Win98 system.
