Announce - BMW Mobile Tradition Original Parts Catalog

Here is the official note regarding a long awaited download:

After many years only in hard copy, we are now releasing the BMW Mobile Tradition Original Parts Catalog through the 2002 Registry and the Tii Register. This document is all of the original parts microfiche converted to paper document, which BMW published originally back in the 80s. With Mobile Tradition's permission, we have been authorized as the primary distribution of this document.

Why would you need this document? This contains photographic and textual specifications on every part of the car as it was stored originally. For example, it contains more information on bolt sizes and length, dimensions than BMW has produced in later electronic versions. It shows diagrams of many many parts no longer available. It has "all the pages" of the fiche, instead of only what shows in the ETK or on RealOEM.com for example. No prices though!

If you are performing a restoration or doing any repairs yourself, this in conjunction with the factory shop manuals will be invaluable for not only ordering, but exact reassembly of the parts themselves. Learn this book!

The link to download it is here... http://www.2002tii.org/phpmyfaq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=220447&id=62&artlang=en

Bill,

Try holding "control" and click on the link (image in this case) and select "Download Linked File". This should get it on your Mac. If you still can not open it after it is downloaded you may need to download the latest version of Acrobat Reader becuse Preview is not compatible with all files types.

This is an awesome piece of living history, but there are some of us out could really use this in a version for the Neue Klasse cars 1500-2000tii. Having easier access to parts info for 1800TI/SA's would be a great help to me especially!

When trying to open it in Acrobat, I'm getting a "file is damaged" notice.

I downloaded it last night and it opens fine. I have adobe 6.0, which displays an opening message that this file was made with newer features and may not work properly with 6.0. So, if you have a version earlier than 6.0, it may not recognise it at all.

Your copy of the file may not be complete or could have been corrupted in the downloading process.

Before you try to re-download the file, try using Foxit Reader http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php on it instead of Acrobat. It is much faster and makes browsing nicer, too. I have used it to browse this catalog and had no problems.

To install foxit,

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/

This is Windows only, but I have not had problems loading on Linux via its built in PDF reader, which is close enough to Mac (FreeBSD) that there should be no problems.

All work was done with Adobe Acrobat 7.

Let me know if you are still having problems, I can get you copy of the document via other methods.

If you can find me a printed 3 ring binder version of this and send it to me I'll gladly go through and convert this document too.

...but that could be because I'm in China. I've bookmarked the page and hope it's still there when I'm back in the States this summer. Or I'll have to get someone who's downloaded it to burn me a CD...
