Oh yeah... on Saturday, I ran into Dave with the Tiaga 2002 at Dick Smith on Whitehorse road... the only way I knew him was because I was standing along side a 2002Tii - the Fjord one with the black rims that (I think Chris(?) owns) from the Yarra Valley run... he walked out and my friend and I were looking at it.

Todd, I think I found out why your car is taking so long. Your real polaris silver 02er is here in Sydney! The car we bought off eBay was originally polaris! Just thought you'd like that little bit of information.

Why didn't anybody ever tell me how much fun a tear down/rebuild is? I'm loving this already. We're plotting out the aspects for the M42 and getting the parts ready for the transplant that will begin on Saturday.

P.S. I know I say this every week, but dammit, you'd better be going to the Auto Fest regardless! We'll let you borrow "Bertie" if need be. He'll be done by then! Keep in touch.

Oh, its fun to watch, thats for sure...

But my car is nearing 3 years with very little run time under its belt (Though I did get to drive it off the trailer a year ago when I pulled it into a garage to do some "light engine work")

Everyone keeps asking me if i'm actually going to drive my car (A few of the guys here in the states are critical of trailer queens) The short answer is: HELL YES! After all the sanding, chipping, prepping, and other assorted nonsense, i will relish every second of finally getting behind the wheel again!

And TMK, something you may want to look at if you have the time - water will sometimes collect around the bottom of the heater box area. I'd reccommend yanking it out now, grinding off any loose rust, and hitting that with some POR15 as well. I'm doing similar work in my car currently.

And a questionabout POR15 also - does it need to be applied to bare metal, or will it stick to Primer?

I thought that POR 15 is used as a primer, so no need to prime, then POR. You can leave it exposed, but I was a bit sloppy in some parts so I have sanded it very smooth. Make sure you rough up the area prior to painting it though - with 240 grit or something...

I plan to drive it! Hell yeah, I want to race it. I cant wait to fry the tyres!!!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
