I am sure this has been asked, but I did not find an answer in the technical wheel section.  Time for new rubber on my 73 Tii and I am wondering how wide I can go (or low, profile) without rubbing issues.  Also, curious if people feel wider will provide better grip (I remember when the Mini's came out the base model was quicker in the slalom than the S, and the article said the skinnier tires provided better slalom handling - which never made sense to me).

Anyway, how wide can I go, and how low (profile) and why or why should I not max out the width.  Currently running 195 / 60 / 14.

TIA

I think i had/have 185/55 x 14 on 6.5x14  BBS rims. Looks a bit too tiny imo but handling is good. Speedo shows wrong (more than usually).

I ran 195/60-14 for years on my former tii with no issues. I only gave up on E30 basketweaves due to the stupid cost of the center caps.  I went to old school 15X7 ET26 open lug MSW basketweaves on my current tii.

Yeah .. available sizes nowadays kinda limits what you can do wider in a 14”.

205 & 215 aren’t really available in a 55 or 50. And a 225 gets too wide. Going to 205/60 in the 14” is getting a bit too tall…

You’re already in one of the few remaining sweet spots for available 14” tires..
