Rear Axle Castle Nuts

I'm rebuilding a set of trailing arms. After tearing down the old ones, I realized that the splines on one of the old stub axles were toast. I purchased two new axles. The old castle nuts seem to be a little sloppy on the threads of the new axles. Do they tend to be a sloppy fit? I know that the "new" nuts are not quite the same as the old ones (shorter).

really should do the hub as well...

+1;  at least check to see if the hub feels loose on the new shaft.  If it is, not even that 275 ft/lbs of torque is gonna keep 'em tight...

...yeah, the hub is harder than the earlier milled shafts, but softer than the later

rolled ones, but either way, when the shaft is deformed, the hub has usually

worn, at least on the clamping face where it meets the outer bearing's inner race.
