Just wondering... Has  anyone had an actual negative experience regarding the fatter S14 chain?

Any empirical evidence to back the bad press?

You know, in terms of wear, failure, noise ect?

I'm pretty sure the s14 chain would rattle like crazy being so loose and most likely do damage.

Ok, then you should try it!

Well, I do have a couple here that I would prefer not to go to waste, thats why the request for info on actual negative results from using one.

Search so far seems to not yield much info on that .

I did however locate this thread easy enough though.

Two Faq members indicate here that long term use of these chains resulted in no ill effects

Not advocating their use, but I am saying that properly installed, it seems your engine wont explode, possible there are no adverse effects at all.

Thats why I would love to hear anyones actual negative experiences.

Dont break out the pitchforks and torches please.

Just trying to separate hype and hearsay from fact.😉

The wider pump chain may run to one side of the sprockets and touch the pump especially if the shafts are not perfectly parallel.  More info is needed to confirm by someone with a wide chain installed.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

"Ive logged 3K+ miles on that engine, and have done 100s of dyno runs at WOT with it. Ive bore scoped the front case down to the oil pump drive and I see no evidence of lateral interference issues.  While I am not endorsing using the S14 chain, it appears (anecdotally), that it is not the end of the world if you use it."

"I've installed the wider (S14) chain in my own engine. I noticed it came close to the Nr 1 main bearing cap, but does not interfere. I've got well over 10,000 miles on the engine now.... so far no problems... but I'd like to know what harm does this cause, and should I be replacing it RIGHT NOW, or not!

Jeff? Andrew? What have you found? (and yes, I see that the crank sprocket and oil pump sprockets are different on E30 M3s.

Silently terrified right now." :(
