The dashboard appears to be to a 66. It is the only year which had that unique badge which isn't just glued on , but is rather pinned through the reinforced dash pad. In addition the molding along the junction of the upper and lower dash pieces is chrome vs. purple or black. Only the 66 had that chrome molding. And, the dash appears to be free of cracks. If that is the case, the dash alone is worth perhaps $1,500 - $2,000, if not more. The Vin # may  also be worth that much, if the car isn't a rust bucket.

I'm impressed by the dash, though. I've only seen a few over the past 40 years.

I'm trying to figure out the original color of the car. Is it Bristol Grey ?

The dashboard has tear on top. But is repailable.

Original color is white, Chamonix.

The body has rust on back fenders, floors has originals without big holes(rare) and solid.

Boot is solid. Valances are hard too, but i dont know are those chanced?

So no so rusty.

And not missing (lot) parts.

Just the rare, expensive ones, grills, football windshield washer, round canister summer box, embossed nose trim?

That driver's side rear shock tower patch is concerning.

All in all, this would be a very expensive restoration if done correctly, but a very worthy project if you have the time and the money.

In fact, these parts can be found loose, although they are not in the picture.

Maybe the car is not for you if you don't have the money or the skills to restore it.

From the photos I’ve seen, the car was likely Chamonix with Navy (Marine) Blue cloth-and-vinyl interior. Particular to the very earliest 1966 1600-2’s, the backrests of the front seats have cloth inserts that spread, at the top of the backrest, to the full width of the seat.

The photo below, of VIN 1500086 — a Chamonix 1600-2 with Navy Blue cloth-and-vinyl interior — is borrowed from Anders’ ‘66 Bible on the U.K. forum. It shows the distinctive early ‘66 front seat upholstery.

My hope is that this car be restored, carefully and correctly.

Good luck with the sale,

Steve

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
