@2002#3Curious, how much, if any advance did your cam timing require when degreeing the cam?  You installed a 292 cam, correct?  I assume you used an adjustable timing gear.

Thanks

Murph

Murph,

1.  The cam was timed according to the Schrick 292 spec instructions:  #1 intake lobe at max height and #1 intake valve at max open...both at 110 degrees.  I don't know if that means advanced or retarded compared to stock.

2.  (i) The bolt holes in a new stock cam gear were elongated along the line of their rotation, i.e., curved, (ii) a new dowel was made, (iii) the cam was timed, (iv) new dowel holes in the cam gear and flange were drilled [where the new dowel would be covered by one of the lock strips], and (v) the new dowel was installed.  So, I guess it could be called adjustable...as long a new dowel hole is drilled each time the cam is adjusted.  However, that sounds like something you probably would not want to do.  So, maybe it could be called non-adjustable.

Photo:  the old dowel hole (6:00) and a partially covered new dowel (9:00) are shown.

M10 Rebuild Part 28 (Water Pump and Oil Filter Housing)

just curious, what water pump did you go with?

I see a few on rock auto reasonably priced....but parts are such junk nowadays I am afraid to commit.  I have half a mind to reuse mine on my m10 rebuild currently in progress.

ajordan282,

I used HEPU brand WP.  $80.  I have the info on this WP plus info on WPs I did not use.  Give me a day or so to get the info from my garage.  I will send it to you via PM.

M10 Rebuild Part 29 (LW Flywheel Timing Marks)

I marked TDC and 25 degrees BTDC on a new JBR lightweight flywheel  by placing the old FW onto the new FW and marking the locations manually.  Calculations indicated the marks should be 61 mm apart.  The new marks were a sufficiently close 63 mm apart (~26 degrees).

M10 Rebuild Part 30 (Intake Manifold and Home)

Today I brought her home - from her build garage to her home in Gray's 02 Garage.  Here she will have a couple of months of R&R after undergoing several months of intense love.  Next, remove the M10 in the '70 and prepare its bay for the new addition.

My machinist bored an oval 38-mm trachea into the intake and fabricated a nice one-piece cover-hole plug for the EGR(?) hole.  I need to grind the remaining sharp edges and contour the end of the hole plug.

Looking good, the 3 wheel engine stand show is somewhat unstable if the front wheel stops while moving, think screwdriver on the floor, so be care full when moving.

I just bolted a short piece of 2x2 square tubing just behind the wheel that sticks out about 6 inches to either side with bolts through the tube ends vertically that are adjusted to about a inch from the floor so it can't tip far enough to fall. I just about ruptured a gut the first time it started to tip, I was just glad it was a m10 and not some big block v8.

M10 Rebuild Part 34:  Retirement of Old Engine

Step 1

Introduction of rebuilt engine to its new home and to the evicted tenant

Step 2

Disconnection of things that need to be disconnected

Intake and exhaust manifolds are not permanently attached and will not go in with the new engine.  Well, maybe the exhaust manifold might.  We'll see.

Yes, I am well aware that when assuredly, unquestionably, and absolutely ALL things attached to old engine have been disconnected...something will still be attached.
