You gotta have a "Big Boar", "Big Stroke", "Big Induction" , "Big Cam".  "Double the HP", "Triple the Steroids and the Strippers" etc.

You really should consider throwing just a teeny-tiny bit of variety into your acumen lol, it’s downright odiously boring to hear the same, geriatric moaning & whinging post after post about “how it used to be” and “the kids today.”  Jeesh, whatever makes people happy with their cars is just perfectly fine with me, stance, turbos, crazy wraps, stickers, whatever! Variety is the spice of life dude, expand your outlook.

I think you’re  exaggerating just a wee bit here.  Also, you’re conflating someone from my generation (80’s kid/greed is good/Gordon Gecko) with Millennials.   
I’d argue that the propensity to hot rod a 2002 by owners of today has more to do with BMW’s racing legacy and how BMW chose to market/promote the cars from them to now.  Going fast is and has been a big part of the marque’s mystique .  The younger guys I know that are into cars are well aware of that and attracted to to it.   They’re not into steroids and strippers.  They’re into cars, and I say the more the merrier!   

Lastly, I’ll point out that hot rodding the car you like is nothing new.  It’s been going on for a long, long time.  As long as I’ve been into cars (my whole life) there have always been those that chose the originality route, and those  that hot rodded the shit out of their cars.  Hell, I have a photo somewhere of a guy that built a dragster out of a Series II Land Rover for crying out loud.

lol, thanks Slavs.  However, I don't think the 2002, it's slight tendency towards Americanism, or it's subsequent hot-rodding is specifically a new phenomenon.

the irony here is that I’m pretty sure you’re part of the majority.  Most 2002 owners I come into contact with choose not to heavily modify their cars.  Further, the more valuable they become the less likely it is that a new owner will modify their new to them 2002.  In fact, I’d argue that you’ll begin to see more and more reversal of mods as/if values truly go nuts.  
 

End of the day, I get it.  You have a personal connection to your cars.  Same here, mines just different than yours.  That doesn’t make me Gordon Gekko…

How many people drive a stock 1600 vs. a modified 02 these days ? I represent the minority or "Blacksheep" here, and your're tired of me espousing the same thing over and over. My first job was that of a shepherd where I took the sheep to pasture every day. I came home each day smelling like sheep. 

As I led my flock the predator wolves were always on the look out, ready to pounce. I don't know if some of them were wearing s14 T-shirts, but they might as well have been. I learned more through that experience than anything else in my 57 years of existence.  Why don't you take the sheep out to pasture, avoiding S-14 testosterone predators and spend driving a bone stock 1600 for 40 years, then tell me what you think "Dude" !

 

 

I drive a bone stock 1600....Its sweet as cherry pie I tell ya!  Wouldn't change a thing. I wear a Rush shirt while driving though.....but....I do not have a stereo......ohhhh the irony.

I hear you!  That was a crazy auction.  I was starting to wonder if the damn thing would break the 10k mark.  Don’t know if you noticed, but one of the comments indicated that it had been listed on s14.net not long ago for $12.5.

the $14k it sold for on BAT is definitely a premium for that motor with the high mileage it’s really more a a nice candidate for a rebuild IMO. Whoever bought that paid over $15k once you add in the buyers fee.
