2002 gears into E36 LSD?

How much power are you trying to address with this setup? Or is this simply a less-expensive means to turn your 3.64 open differential into an LSD?

Both. Planning on 150-180hp depending on which route I end up going.

I’ve been reading through Mike Macartney’s restoration book and came across this today regarding the coarse vs fine splines:

My car is a ‘75 so it sounds like the splines would be fine / compatible with E36.

The E36 LSD I was able to get is missing one of the output drive flanges. If I'm loading the E36 LSD carrier into the 2002 housing will I be able to use the 2002 output flanges?

Is that true for late model cars after the coarse to fine spline changeover? (see the image from Mike M's book above)

Do you have any information about those different times? It seems odd that the engineers would choose to change the splines on one end of the driveshaft and not the other.

The splines aren’t on the driveshaft, they are on two completely different components made by different suppliers I believe.
