I am considering repainting it back to original Polaris or some modern silver color (Frozen or Silverstone silver).  Also I am considering making it black since I really like how chrome pops out on black color. Still have plenty of time to decide.

If you’re considering re-painting it silver, an original ‘02 silver — by which I mean Polaris metallic (060) — will generally add value to the car, whereas a modern silver generally will not. Your car is a first-year 2002. Down the line, many of those interested in a 1968 2002 will also be interested in originality.

Besides, Polaris is great color. I bought my ‘76 new and have never regretted my choice of color... in contrast to some other decisions I made in the '70's... ??

Regards,

Steve

Your in luck, the FAQ has a very nice Blog section and super easy to setup and post.  Just click on the Blog link on the top line menu on the FAQ and "Create a new Blog" from the Blog page.  Then you can add your restoration photos and stories as you go.

Mark92131

@Mark92131 @AceAndrew check it out https://www.bmw2002faq.com/blogs/entry/2124-2002-1968-story-so-far/ But question is than why have blog and this thread at same time ?

Yes, please start a blog on the car, extremely easy to do here on the FAQ.  In addition, it'll make referencing your car in the future much simpler.  It is a neat car.

Also, another request to see if you can save the early chrome dash.  That style dash reflects the original design intent of the 2002, much nicer than later dashes.

Dash stays it is really nice once sorted up - thanks for advice. Chrome on mine dash is peeling and nothing is aligned right

Today I applied dry ice on the floor to check out if bitumen removes easier when frozen. I took 30 kg of dry ice and put in several bags for easier placement and ability to move it. Left it on floor for 1 hour and the floor panels and then try how it peels away. Floor actually freeze from bottom.

I was able to remove big chunks at once so I would definitely suggest to anyone who will be removing bitumen from floor. On my e9 I used hot gun and chisel and it took ages with a lot of mess.

I found several holes in floor panels after removing bitumen from top and bottom side.

I would have put a few Pivos in the ice. Where in Slovenia?

Seems that rust is prevalent there too.

Good thinking ;)

Car was from area where there is not so much salt on roads in winter time but after 50 years it was expected that there will be rust since it has been driven a lot.

Subframes were sandblasted and dipped in anticorrosive coating so that all hollow parts will be protected. Next stage is powder coating for final finish.

Just travelling - usually through  en-route north or south.. Been there 5 or 6 times. Pretty much seen the whole country. Great variety and some good mountain roads. Where are you?

Sorry but that's just painted  - restored is different.
Your nuts are wrong and if they've blasted what they have painted your stub axles are nuts. The part where the seal is should neither be painted nor blasted - it will eat your seals within a few kilometers.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
