Good Luck!  If you pass through Ohio, give me a holler. I can put you up for the night and feed you!

And I'm just  few miles from Jim (we're both in Dayton suburbs, just off I-70) with spare parts and a little mechanical knowledge...

Excellent thanks everyone. I kinda felt spontaneous yesterday and departed early on a whim. I left 2pm Friday from Los Angeles and drove till about midnight winding up in Gallup New Mexico. Yes there was snow on the ground in flagstaff and yes my feet are frozen. But did we survive? So far! I’m in a hotel for a night to get out of the cold. It looks like PA and Ohio are going to be just as cold (sub 30) I’m thinking of taking a southern route now and setting tomorrow’s goal for Nashville.

Good luck, should be a fun and memorable trip!

I just followed your instagram account last night and I’m looking forward to seeing your progress.  I’m in Bergen County NJ too, so maybe we’ll run into each other one day.

Stay warm and have a safe trip!

Update:

Starter hit the fritz in Oklahoma but maintained.

solid 25-30 mpg

in Arkansas, starter died completely. No problem that’s what we got legs for. Gonna replace it when I’m home, along with an oil change, and thorough cleaning.

Im in Tennessee right now about 100 miles out from Nashville had to call it a day. Back on it early tmw I’m eager to hit the road again !

shouts out @Get2theBimmah the car is so badass

Holy crap man you're flying.  When we drove across the country we made similar time.  It was moving my buddy from NJ to San Diego.  Let me know if you need anything when you're back here.  Keep us updated.

Wow so are you pushing the car, jumping in and popping the clutch yourself?

Any chance the switch power line to the starter has just fallen off?  Had to say it.

Fun thread to follow.  Thanks.

I’m gonna double check all the connections today. I’m back in jersey!

overall, the trip took me 57 hours. The car ran so well. I did notice in colder temperatures it’s much noisier and to me it sounded like the carburetor was spitting until I got to higher rpm (that’s the best description I have sorry). Now that I’m home, I’m going to change my oil, oil filter,  and see what’s the story behind the starter. Both my head lamps cracked, but thankfully before I left I bought two new ones so I’ll replace those as well. I’m going to clean the entire car thoroughly to remove any troublesome rust causing sprites.

Any other PM recommendations?

I run a 32/36 Weber and would like to clean it out or something.

Ill examine my alternator belt, but other than that I’m a noob.

Thanks guys. You were all a large support to get me 3k miles

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
