I bought a second set — in poor condition — to potentially install in my ‘76 but I was....stressing....about 1972-73 seats in my very stock ‘76. ??

Putting second hand seats in your car in 1976 was very much a period correct modification!

Maybe, but I can’t imagine taking out my brand new seats in ‘76 and putting in even the most-awesome ‘72-‘73 Recaro’s...

Best regards,

Steve

C’mon!

What would late teens, early 20’s Steve do?

Think about the thrill of adding a tii clock to your virgin dash. Channel that feeling.

You need to think like a young bro (again!)

But wait, Uli: I really thought these were only produced in 1972-73, and were: (a.) possibly, a factory option on 911’s in the Germany-only market, and (b.) not available as a factory option on any BMW’s, and certainly not a 1975 model.

Sorry a complete misunderstanding. The blue Material is original to the drivers seat, you were able to order every Recaro Seat in BMW Material.
The seats I built in to the CSi, it's original seats are in the attic with a dozen others.

I also have an Idealsitz in beige BMW Material like my 67 has that was also a special order from Recaro.

Got it! Thanks, Uli.

Now I understand.

LMAO. You are SO right, Simeon!!

The only thing stopping me from such changes 40+ years ago was a lack of cash!  I never imagined I’d own the car for more than 5 years, nor did I think I’d want to own it for more than 5 years....?

Best regards,

Steve

Not 100% responsive to the original post, but I notice the seats in my ‘72  Chaminox are actually three different shades of blue—the side panels, the basket weave and the piping .  It is hard to see in the photos.  I believe they are original but no way to know for sure.  To me, it is amazing how well they have held up over 47 years.  When I purchased the car a year ago, the title listed the mileage as 205,433, obviously honest prior owners (as opposed to the common craigslist ads—75,000 original miles!)

  • 1 year later...

sorry to be a year late to this party!

I absolutely LOVE the photo of the seats that Lars posted !

my seats are exactly the same and I’ve been waiting for years to reupholster them, but it’s been hard to get any real answers or sample from BMW. I follow the classic bmw site and I see that they did release a marineblau material last year.

finally I see it is the right one.

can anyone ( LARS ) give me the part number of the cloth?

my thoughts are to get world upholstery to use this to make a full car set.

hopefully Lars can help me! :)

i have not posted in a long while here, so I can’t send a direct message to him until I am approved here.
