I Found The Greatest Product! Cup Holder Revisited.

I'm waiting on a clock repair so I thought I'd attack the irritating problem of securing beverages. It seems anywhere you want to put them, they're in the way, or in a precarious position, or you have to design a complicated apparatus to hold the drink.

I believe the sides of the transmission tunnel are a good area to park a beverage without it getting in the way as well as keeping it low in case of accidental spillage. The requirement s are 1) not too close to the peddles 2) not in the way of seat movement and 3) within easy reach.

So as not to create a permanent addition (purist neurosis) I looked for a way to attach the cup holder so it could be moved or removed easily.

I FOUND THE GREATEST PRODUCT! Scotch brand heavy duty self adhesive Hook and Loop. It attaches to itself AND TO THE CARPET and requires (in my estimation) close to 5lbs of pressure to break the seal. IT REALLY WORKS. But it isn't permanent. You can reposition the strips on the carpet or remove them all together.

I bought it at a Staples office supply store. Go figure. I originally bought it to secure peripheral accessories to my professional video camera. That's how I learned it works so well.

Following is a pictorial explanation what I did. About 10min of work, mostly just waiting for the contact cement to set up.

Total cost for 2 cup holders (driver and passenger) under 20 bucks.

Edit previous post:

Sorry, last picture in series is not really required. I originally applied back-to-back strips to the carpet to which I would secure the cup holder. I eventually realized that was redundant as the strips on the cup holder adhere to carpet just as well.

That's how I attached the three gauge pod atop my dash to a home-made wooden base (suitably painted semi-gloss black to look like metal) that's in turn screwed to the holes in the dashboard that originally held the Fasten Seat Belts sign.  They've been there since 1987, including many autocrosses and a driver's school at Mid-Ohio and haven't come loose yet!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
