For the non-purist, is that diagnostic port useful at all??  I would like to delete it entirely.  Would there be any negative consequences in deleting this port?

You can use it for remote starting when tuning the car, as well as tach/dwell with PatAllen's tune box.  Otherwise, no problem removing it.

My electric fuel pump is powered from the box. I also use it for a remote starter when I tune the engine. I'm itching to pull the trigger to buy a Pat Allen Tune Box but would have to rewire fuel pump before using.

I would not want it pulled from my car, but then again, I still have my wisdom teeth because they ain't bothering anything.
