magnetic oil pan drain plug...haven't seen another--at least on later cars.

Anyone have one that was factory installed?

I used the super inexpensive way of converting the drain plugs in our cars to magnetic. Bought some small, incredability strong neodymium magnets and placed one in the cavatity of our existing drain plugs, and, bingo you have a magnetic drain plug.

I think the tip came orinigally from Mike S.

the bmw motorcycles 1950's - 1980 come with magnetic

plugs in the gearbox, rear diff. Easy to add to the motor oil drain.

Some BMW cars manual gear box and rear diffs also come

std with magnetic plugs. Many sizes.

Every motor and gear unit should have one

look at the site link above - any size you need they have

The early longneck diffs had magnetic drain plugs, some early sideloader diffs as well. They're the same thread as the later diff plugs and the 19mm head engine oil drain plugs. 10mm Allen like non magnetic diff plugs. I have one for the oil pan of my Red... Also a vandalism deterrent as very few ruffians have 10mm Allen wrenches on them, but most may have a 3/4"-19mm wrench. ;)

Be careful if you just add a magnet. If it falls off, it could cause a problem. Your magnet has been gathering metal shavings and all of a sudden the big clump of metal is set free and can go anywhere. That can cause a much bigger problem than a piece of metal here and there.

any1?????

YES mostly; some later cars and most replacement oil pans have drain plugs with 12x1.5mm threads

My 69 (built 26th April 1969) has a magnetic plug too.

I'm the fourth owner however, so I have no idea if it's stock or not.

Which one?? Engine, trans or diff??

BTW, nearly all BMWs have magnetic trans drain plugs.......

You don't have to worry about a neodymium coming out of the inside of a drain plug. If you've never been around them you'll be absolutely amazed at how strong a magnet they are. I tried to get one out of the inside of the drain plug on my car and it was a major job, even though the thing is only about ¼" long, and smaller in both the other dimensions. Trying to pull two of the little buggers apart takes a lot of strength. They are incredible.

I don't remember where I got mine online, but just google it and you'll find lots of sources.

Clarification: my 69 2002 has a magnetic engine oil pan drain plug. Mike above was asking if anyone has or had seen another.
