refurbished wheels - early alloys

finally mounted the gifted early alloys after a refurb by a company called "alloy wheel repair specialists" - the name of the company seemed to suit my needs. happy with the results. These wheels sat in a friend's open carport for 20 years after he sold his Tii, and deserved a refurb. 2 were bent, needed straightening/truing, and all were pretty grungy even after cleanup. They trued, sandblasted, painted, and clear coated - all in 3 or 4 days. new stems, roundels, and one hub-cap from Blunt. I let them sit for a couple weeks to cure after paint. I know, I need to do body work and paint . . .

nice work. tell me though, what is the draw to the alloys? imho, i've never found them to be very good looking, but so many people drool over them. is it a rarity thing?

again, nice restoration.

I think the originals are pretty hard to find. These are stamped 1973. Always liked the look, but never would have bought a set $$ - until these wheels became available from a friend who was not using them.

You just did the same as I did, took off the basket weaves & added the original Alloys, I think they look the best on an 02 , nostalgia & all that & to me a hot rodder they look similar to Halibrands which I think are the best hot rod wheel.

Your car looks great.

Your car is lookin' great with those wheels, man. Wonder what year they started offering those - I wanna say Modell 71 but maybe they were available earlier.

They were first offered as part of the "sports package" on the 2000tii Touring in 1971 and were somewhat inspired by the alloys that were standard on the 2800CS since 1969.

Beautiful wheels. The best looking wheels on an 02, period.

How much did you pay for the restauration, if you don't mind me asking ?

Aside from looking period correct (and gorgeous) They'll also be a heck of a lot easier to clean than the basketweaves.

As a certified wheel whore, these are among my favorite wheels for the 02. Nice choice, especially if you're old enough to remember seeing them on the cars back in the seventies.

Thanks for the good vibes guys. I like the way they look for sure. Car is coming together slowly. New lug nuts, valve stems, and tires just make those things look even better. I am really bummed out that I cannot make it to the Vintage. signed up, but had a conflict. please say hi to Der Spaten Fraulines for me!

i seem to be alone in my opinion, but strictly from a design perspective, i don't like them. is it possible for all of you guys that like them to separate them them from the historical significance? sure they're early, and rare and cool because they came on 2002s...anyway... they just seem flat-faced to me. indeed they are easier to clean because there is so much flat surface area, versus, say, basket weaves.

again, my opinion and congrats on making them look as good as they can!
