  10. Steve, Good guess! Here is what Julia Oberndörfer from BMW Archives wrote me: The BMW 1600 US VIN 1571242 was manufactured on April 08th, 1970 and delivered on April 17th, 1970 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Chamonix, paint code 085.
