  1. hmm... probably excessively tight clearance. I haven't seen that happen to a valve before though. you have have to check if the stem is also bent at the top or if it works fine. what are these valves made out of? seems somewhat malleable.
  2. ah they used pneumatic locks that early huh? I know the last 2004 Mercedes I worked on had pneumatic locks, operated by a vacuum pump under the rear seat. YES that's the funky axle... like a semiindependent rear suspension.
  3. maybe not as practical for most, but the Airlift is a neat little tool that puts the system in a vaccum and then sucks the coolant out of a bucket filling the system with it's own vacuum, leaving no need for bleeding. It does also require an air compressor/shop air.
  4. wow that's tight fitment. I did rear brakes on an R55 Mini today. I took some pictures but I'll have to upload them later.
  5. oh yeah... buying batteries manufactured and shipped overseas sure is saving the environment. lol. Bet it moves pretty quickly though. Those electric motors tend to have an instant flat torque curve.
  6. Forgot to take pictures. So far I've found that 80% of the parts I need are NLA. And you thought WE had it bad. lol
  7. thread gave me a good laugh. are those the pokey things coming up from the floorboards?
  8. I am surprised. those look great. I saw an E9 Bavaria in West Jordan where I work a few weeks back.
  9. Hey I've got a 1972 280 SE that a client brought in about a year ago which has been sitting in storage for 16 years. Seeing as how it's 20 years older than I am with no currently available service data, I'm looking for advice on getting it running and legal again. I know all the standard "check/replace fluids, hoses, belts, gaskets, wires etc" stuff. Fortunately it's fuel injected, though probably varnished beyond repair. Just curious if you guys have any tips to common things to check in these that I haven't thought of...or maybe some knowledge of that crazy rear axle design? wtf. I'll post some pics eventually too. it's pretty nice though, have found minimal rust on it.
  10. neat car, but I won't go as far as sexy. hah that's probably true... if I end up with green rockers, I think it's safe to say we'd where they came from.
  11. ugh same crap here... I park in the driveway because I have that space taken up in the garage. neighbor kids always set up their soccer goal, baseball stand, football crap right on MY side of their front yard. seen those balls come close to hitting my car so many times. saw a kid jump over my hood once on the POS car. almost ran these kids over a couple times too... just jump right in the way. It's not like the parents are right there watching or anything...
  12. I don't know any UT peeps anyway. sexy Fiat? that's.... well that's just not possible.
  13. just need to make sure there's oil in the engine, throttle is open if it has one on it, a compression tester set and the starter installed on the engine with a battery and jump leads. hook the positive cable to the starter motor and ground it out to let the engine crank. about four "puffs" of the engine should do it. All spark plugs out too.
  14. my solution is to just delete all of the heater components...
  15. yeah those look pretty good, and they're cheap too. I need to order one sometime as well. crazy that they want to total it just for that. they probably went off OEM parts cost at $700 a fender. 4 lug... ok. I thought maybe you found some cool trick to putting the 5 lug wheels on these things.
  16. oh yeah I've opened it up pretty well. wheel arches have some rust but I expect to cut them off for flares and bigger wheels. I had it up on a lift the other day and inspected the subframe mounts etc. they're all OK. a little surface rust.
  17. people want everything to go their way, and absolutely zero liability when it doesn't. Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Maybe they're onto something about disclaimers. My evil nubs have rusted off with the floor so... yeah. edit: sorry, not disclaimers but liability waivers. Just make a few in your downtime and sell as another batch. Instead of a business, you're just "helping out."
  18. hey I tore almost the whole dash out of an E-class a while back just to finally figure out it was a broken vacuum line inside the fender that was my issue.
  19. yet another left front fender... I just removed mine so I should never have that issue! I bet it works out just fine though. I have a side marker if you want it for shipping cost. also I just have to ask... are those 4 lug wheels? I have two sets of those but they're 5 lug.
  20. Have an E30 M3 in the shop here today... Really like the color so I may just go with a darker silver metallic.
  21. You'll also have to check the cylinder bores for taper and out-of-round. If they're excessive you will need to have the cylinders bored and oversize pistons installed.
