  1. I have some 13's that i autocrossed for the first time. See the photos. I used my bmw alloy bolts torqued properly. Wheels did fine but were hard to get of at days end. The bolt that went throught the wheel chewed up the alloy and threads were in the bolts upon removal. As the wheels are not hub centric, i suspect they had some play. Any thoughts for a fix beyond new wheels? Does this just come with the territory?
  2. So i did some autocross and i was given a bit of hard time for my 73tii's battery not being properly secured. Do the track guys have any advice to lock it down? I am not interested in battery relocation, and am using zip ties until i decide on something better.
  3. Nice job on the tow/flip. "That car looks pretty good for being upside down. Lest f&@k it up!"
  4. I use black turtle wax for my black cars.. Pretty happy, except it makes a mess on clothes/rags if not careful
  5. In irony to my original title... "God damn people" and the first couple of replies, I figured it was not my coworkers, as i work with a small group and we are pretty close. I then realized the office beside us is a chaplains office. Nope... Not likely them (but i did edit my tile in case the big guy is frowning). Next to that is a daycare. My work is just off a military base in the centre of a military housing area. Lots of young families. Lots of teens. Not pointing fingers. That being said, i will ask my coworkers if they will kindly give it back if i promise to catch up on my paperwork.
  6. Some days the deserted island sounds great. Today is one of those days. Do i get to choose the island? I suspect wandering teens given the neighbourhood (right on a residential area). I call it less of a message crime (my cars rear was dusty and full of opportunity) and more of a crime of opportunity. That being said, part of me is happy it was not fastened down. Had it been, there may have been scratches. I may epoxy it. Will digest options. No more tii at work i guess. The deserted island side of me is designing a use for a spare battery as we speak. Of interest, i remember seeing a security system you could buy in south america. A proximity sensor would warn you to step away. If you did not, flame throwers under the car would do their thing. Lots of people better off on an island i guess.
  7. Someone stole the roundel of the rear of my car today. I was parked at work. Some people....
  8. I had a rebuilt m3 bosh starter installed in my tii last fall. Worked great. Very short start times. A few starts after awakening the car from winter slumber and it begins to have issues disengaging from the flywheel. Turns out the solenoid was missing a screw and came loose. This is fixed now, timing is set for the rebuilt distributer, and air fuel ratios are pretty spot in (idle 12-13, partial throttle 12-15, wot 13-13.5). Pump reciently rebuilt. Spark plugs checked. Rebuilt warmup regulator, new thermotyme switch. Cold start valve works great, replaced fuel pump. Injectors fine. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/142720-tii-long-crank-times-after-sitting/?fromsearch=1 This thread taught me it could be anything. Am i still too lean for startup? Seems a bit worse when cold. I give the pump time to come up to pressure
  9. Not to brag, but I just wanted to state that my 40 year old car was about as fast as this modern tuned Subaru WRX STI... and that was with me babying my transmission and taking gentle starts. The driver was new like me and pretty pumped that he had beat a number of the experienced guys including our instructor. He was riding our instructor pretty hard. Anyway, I come over (I had the same instructor), and said "Congrats man, what was your time?" He said his time and that he only got one cone. I replied "Well you beat me too, as I was 3 tenths slower. But then I didn't hit a cone..." He shut right up. :-D My old girl is keeping up its rep as a bit of a giant killer.
  10. I turned the idle mix screw counterclockwise about 1/4 a turn for an idle that was 12-13.5 on the air fuel ratio. Much better, can idle all day long. WOT and part throttle was still as above. That being said, I did drop in some STP octane booster (jet fuel) into the tank prior to my autocross event today. Seems like WOT moved from 13 to 13.5 afr. Part throttle was about the same, maybe 0.5 less lean across the board. I assume that is the booster, not the idle change. Hard to know given that I added booster, and changed idle richness at the same time. anyway... photos. Not sure why the camera made everything so grey...
  11. More details. The sensor was welded vertically a few inches past where the exhaust manifold joins to a single pipe. Idle is 14-17 and about 800-900rpm. It does not stall, but sounds a little sick at times. Partial throttle is 12 to just over 14.5 warm in 4th. 12 is breathing on the throttle. 3.5k rpm (3.91 ratio diff, 4 speed) in 4th says 65mph. This is light throttle. Just under 14 at this throttle. More throttle leans it out up to 14.5 in a pretty linear fashion (hills for the same speed add about 0.5) with max on hills a hair over 15. WOT is 12.5 to 13.5 (latter hill in 4th). Lift and it goes to 18, but no backfiring. Jgerry2002 once posted "At WOT you should be (ideally) ~12.5-13, idle Tii's seems to like about 12.9.-13.1. Cruise should be ~15. " 1. Is the sensor too close to the manifold and will this skew what i see? Looked similar to jgerock for position. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/97869-tii-running-issues-updated-2272012/?hl=air%20fuel 2. I feel i may be running lean at least for idle. How to i best adjust idle only? Simply the tuna can idle screw?
  12. Had a number of things done to my tii including the 3.91lsd, and a air fuel sensor. When warm i get 13 at wot, 13-14 part throttle. Idle when warm is lean at 14-17 however.
  13. I will let the experts chime in, but my reading suggested that a lot of people just use the sealer.
  14. got it!!! http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/97869-tii-running-issues-updated-2272012/?hl=air%20fuel
  15. this is not the one I was looking for, but helpful on ratios for idle, WOT, and partial throttle http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/133681-calling-those-with-tiis-and-afm-gauges-bill-justin-jimg/?hl=air%20fuel
  16. Ahhh... over the fall of 2013 I ordered an AEM air fuel ratio wideband sensor with analogue gauge that needs to be welded in. I think Jgrock had a great post on how he installed his, or maybe it was hack mechanic. Either way, I have lost that bookmark and I am obviously just not hitting the right search terms. I think I have been away from the site too long. I also had a great thread (jgrock again I think) where he was trying to diagnose his air/fuel ratio issues for his Tii. I will keep searching until I find it, but could anyone help a man out? My sensor goes in tomorrow, but I am looking for the entry point in the passenger foot-well, the ideal air-fuel ratio (my brain says around 14 for the Tii. And I suppose any helpful tips (best location, tilt up to minimize condensation forming...).
  17. Blunt sent me a set in the fall. Strikes me he mentioned that supply was going dry.
  18. Last fall my original starter was replaced with a new bosh starter (m3 style i believe). It was great last year. It was aldo gret the first three starts post storage. Now whenever i start up it dounds as if the starter is having trouble backing off the flywheel and i get a few seconds or gear sounds. Uugh! I am new to this and will be taking the car in for a few routine things... Timing and This included, but to smoothen the process i would like and idea of what is going on. The only difference from last year is 5 months without use, and a rebuilt distributer (timing not officially set... Idle about 1200rpm. Could the idle be the issue?
  19. My diff goes in this weekend. I know what to do there. ;-P I will ask aardvark if mine comes with sparks... They look pretty
